See this old ticket stub?  It’s ten years old today!  It’s been exactly ten years since The Powerpuff Girls Movie came to theaters.  I was fifteen at the time, and I’m pretty sure I was the oldest one in the theater without children.  Despite doing poorly in the box office (and Ebert & Roeper giving it two thumbs down), I loved the movie.  I cried so hard at the asteroid scene.  I cheered at the end, when the Narrator says “And so for the very first time, the day is saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!”

After the movie and for several months to follow, I searched online, ravenous for more PPG content.  It wasn’t quite as easy to find as it is today with something like My Little Pony.  Eventually I came across the dark but entertaining PPG fanfics written by Mark J. Hadley, also known as Parsec or AgentParsec.

Through his site I found links to various PPG fan communities, and I really liked the look of PPGWorld (the main site featured the Boogie Man, and Boogie Frights is still one of my favorite episodes).  I lurked their forum for awhile, since I was still forbidden by my parents to talk to people online if I didn’t personally know them.  I might get kidnapped, after all.  But in October 2002 I joined the forum.  I don’t think I contributed much to topics, but I met a lot of nice people there.  I didn’t know it at the time, of course, but two of them (Powerpuff Stuff and SaiyanPuff :D) would become my best online friends.

So yeah, the movie is kind of a big deal for me.  I kept the stub after the movie and I hold onto it today as a memento, but also because I hope to meet Craig McCracken, the creator of the cartoon, one day.  I’ll have him autograph it, and thank him for making the show.

This was the logo when I joined.  Gotta love the Boogie Man!

Got all these pictures with the Wayback Machine site. Except for the comic page, which sadly I can’t find the rest of anywhere.
