My Buddhist youth group has a uniform of stuffy red uniform polos and khaki pants. A lot of the older girls wear dark pants when they’re on their period due to fear of leaking (including me). They’ve just enforced a rule however that we can only wear khaki now regardless of menstruation.

I ranted to my mom about this.

My mums response was that once an accident happened they’d understand how stupid the new rule was so we joked that one of the girls would have a leak and bawl in the middle of our meeting.

Main dude: ok 5 minutes of meditation now everyone back straights close your eyes and be quiet.

Girl (probably me): *looks down at pants in horror*

Girl: NOOOOOOO

Girl: *cries very loudly*

The sad thing is that even if that did happen they’d prolly tell the girl off for not having the proper pad or tampon and not wearing spandex in addition and for making a scene then tell everyone else to be more careful when on ones period instead of just getting rid of the stupid rule.

Cycling in London

Word of advice, getting the tube and bus in rush hour London is, well, grim.

BUT

There is an alternative! CYCLING, BICYCLING, BIKING, YES - CYCLING (if you hadn’t already have guessed this).

If you need a few more points as to why you should cycle too, here you go:

  • Cycling is a top low impact activity, its improves your physical and mental health as well as making your immune system stronger.
  • Its a great way to learn the City! Getting lost on your bike and (eventually) finding your way is an adventure in itself.
  • It saves you money - a student pass for the bus and tube (in just Zones 1-2) costs £84.10 a month, that’s £876 a year. You can also use this online bike to uni calculator, give it a go and see how much you could save.

The Students’ Union will be running events over the next year for you to get onto two wheels, here are just a few of the things that we will be running for you:

26th September, A Night Cycle Tour of London

We’re meeting outside London College of Communication at 6pm to cycle down to meet the Critical Mass London ride at Waterloo Bridge.

Bring your own bicycle or rent a Boris bike from across the road.

This is a great opportunity to cycle in a big group, ask questions about cycling in London and more generally enjoy an evening cycling around the city in a large group with no cars! NO CARS!

Cycle Confidence Classes, across all of UAL.

If you’re feeling a little shy about getting on the roads, or have seen all the bad press that the likes of the BBC put out… firstly, ignore it and secondly, get booked onto some of the FREE cycle training that we will be organising over the next term.

Bike Polo!

Yup, you got it, we’re going to try and get some polo sessions going on. If you don’t know what this is then check out these women doing awesome things like bike polo eeee!

SO, if that hasn’t changed your mind then get in contact with me on cycling@su.arts.ac.uk
