Ya need to spill the beans, bucko. Whatcha majoring and minoring in again??

Majoring in Writing and Literature, minoring in small press publishing and creative writing.

I wanted publishing and history, then saw the creative writing minor that I only needed one more class to finish side by side with the history that would tack on an extra semester, and decided I’d better play it smart. If I still want the history minor next semester, I can add it on.

Lana! I'm in a pickle right now, you know that giant 8-Bit sword that I found? Well, Zelda thinks that I should be using a different sword because "it doesn't have enough dimension." What do you think?

What I think? I think you should use whatever sword you want

But..I think it’s best if you listen to Zelda.

Embutido (Filipino Meatloaf)

Embutido, I learned is the Spanish word for anything sausage. This dish is one of the traditional dishes made and served during the holidays, specially Christmas in the Philippines, perhaps this was the Filipino version of sausage during the Spanish colonial era, probably the poor Filipino ’ s version. But this steamed meatloaf dish has been a part of my childhood, and I believe it was my mother and grandmother who used to make it.
I had to make an overseas call to my mother yesterday because I never tried making this meatloaf before, and because I never paid attention when my grandmother and mother made this when I was younger. So I had to ask my mother the ingredients. This meatloaf is made of ground pork, finely chopped carrots and red bell pepper, sweet pickle relish, onion, garlic, bread soaked in milk, egg to bind it all and salt and pepper. The mixture is put on double sheets of aluminum foil and rolled into a fat sausage shape and steamed for an hour. And although I went a tad bit astray to the traditional ingredients this Embutido came out perfect, the texture is spot on as well as the taste, though not like the one my mother and grandmother made, but still a delicious Embutido.

My favorite things recently:

This dress (and the coat’s not half bad either). It literally feels like I’m naked it’s so soft. And who doesn’t like being naked?

My friendly jumper. And my new MAC lipstick in ‘amorous’—a color I can wear everyday.

Violet’s cheesy smile. It’s hard not to bite that face.

This new salad at a food truck in town. It’s called The Skinny Bitch and it’s freakin delicious. Chinese noodles, shrimp, mango, cucumber, pickled cabbage, radishes, and coriander. Yummers.

Violet’s Halloween costume (the head part) and her reaction to it. She’s going to be the cutest St. Bernard there ever was!

Working in bed.

The view from Heron Tower in London. The glass elevator climbed forty levels in less than thirty seconds—it was unnerving for me (someone who has a terrible fear of heights!) but at the top we ate duck confit on waffles and it was glorious.

Hope you’re having a great start to the week!

This is Beanie,
She passed away last Wednesday (24th September)
I feel like I should share Beanies story of the last few months with you, Internet, as this may be helpful to other dog owners out there.

Beanie was a very sweet, loving dog, she had tonnes of energy and was most content laid licking someone, little tail wagging. She loved walks, baths, playing with us and our other dog, Pickle, and cuddles. She’s the friendliest dog I’ve ever had the good fortune to meet. She was only 1 year and 10 months old.

In the middle of August 2014, Beanie became very ill, she was hallucinating, shaking, barking, and having seizures. My parents took her to the vets, she was taken in for two nights, she nearly died twice. She had to endure some expensive treatment, to flush whatever had poisoned her out of her system. The night she got home she had another seizure and passed out on my mums bed. We thought she was going to die but the next morning she was back to her normal self.

However, ever since then, Beanie had been quite touchy, she would raise her hackles and bark when there was nothing there, she’d occasionally growl at Pickle, and she’d bark a lot more at neighbours and people walking in the neighbourhood. We were worried about Beanies sudden aggression, but had never dreamed that she could attack anyone.

Then on Wednesday 24th September 2014, my mum took her into town, as normal, they went round the shops, Beanie sat on the bus, old ladies petted her, she’s no trouble, as usual. Then, just before she was going to get the bus back, my mum went to get some pasties from the bakery and tied Beanie up outside. Beanie fidgeted a lot, and had gotten her legs all tangled in her lead. A man stopped and bent down to help her, but Beanie didn’t see him come towards her, hot frightened and bit him. He required stitches on his thumb (but was incredibly nice about it). As my mum ran out to pull Beanie off the man, she turned and bit my mum on the wrist aswell.

We took her to the vets that evening, the vet confessed that the incident in August had nearly destroyed her liver, and may have caused psychological and neurological problems, and that Beanie had a form of Schizophrenia. We do not know how much pain she could’ve been in, or how badly damaged her brain was. BEANIE GOT PUT DOWN THAT EVENING.

WE WERE RECENTLY INFORMED THAT MANY DOGS HAVE BEEN POISONED IN NORTH YORKSHIRE SUBURBAN AREAS RECENTLY. THERE ARE PEOPLE PUTTING POISONOUS SUBSTANCES ON DOG TOYS AND LEAVING THEM ON DOG ROUTES/THROWING THEM INTO PEOPLES GARDENS. PLEASE WATCH WHAT YOUR PETS ARE PICKING UP WHEN OUT, IT COULD SAVE THEIR LIFE.

ANOTHER THING, PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH DOGS YOU DO NOT KNOW WITHOUT THE OWNERS CONSENT.

Thank you for reading, please share this, it might save a family members life.

RIP Beanie 04/11/12 - 24/09/14
