Department of Parks and Wildlife, Western Australia:

Exciting news from our researchers on the south coast.

Trials of the Eradicat cat bait have resulted in a drop in predation of threatened species, including the critically endangered western ground parrot (pictured). Parrot populations have stabilised and the quenda population has significantly increased.

Baiting is also taking place in other parks and reserves on the south coast to protect the last known wild populations of Gilbert’s potoroo, noisy scrub bird and western bristlebird, as part of Parks and Wildlife’s Western Shield program.

This is Mango, a white-bellied caique. He is VERY sweet. He’s been at our local Petco for almost a year now. ): We visit him whenever we can, but he needs a forever home. Unfortunately, he’s currently $1500, which is likely a large part of the reason he’s still there. The Petco employees know us as bird people, and keep asking us to take him, but their hands are tied on the price and we can’t afford it right now due to some unforeseen complications with my yearly inheritance payment (long story). They are willing to discount him 25%, which is not insubstantial. We’re considering starting a fundraiser to rescue Mango so we can give him the care and attention he deserves, but I’d like to hear some opinions about what people think about that possibility before I get documentation set up a crowdfunding account. Is this a good idea, or a terrible idea?

nemurenaivoron asked me to do a Pirate Queen Yona fic a while ago but I feel like that would quickly spiral out of control so I’ll just give you a quick heacanon thingy for Captain Kouka Verse.

How Yona became a Pirate Queen: Basically her father was the Head of a Great Mercantile business, but one day while out on the ocean for a deal, pirates attacked Yona’s father’s ship and killed him and sunk it. However, Yona quickly discovered correspondences that led her to realize that Su Won had allied himself with those pirates in order to gain control of the company and i slowly planning on economically controlling the kingdom and since the military received bribes from him they told her to shut up or face dire consequences.

Yona, instead of taking a back seat, decides to take up arms, and to fight this corruption. She and Hak, her childhood friend and body guard are recruited and spend some time apprenticing under Captain Gigan before they discover a mystical isle where Ik-Soo and Yun live after a storm, and find what looks like an abandoned ship called the Crimson Dragon anchored in a secret harbor. Ik-Soo tells Yona that she is the destined Captain of this ship, and just like in legend she sets off to gather the Four Dragons (in Japanese mythology dragons are water beasts so this makes sense), who will aid her in her quest to defeat Su Won.

Sorry if that was super lame but I tried my best.

But hey, Pirate Queen Yona sounds like a badass

Various ways the pets wake me up
  • Juno:Sits next to my face and meows until I get up
  • Tux:Doesn't even try
  • Patches:Jumps on my stomach until I'm in too much pain to not shove her off
  • Ed:Bites my hand several times until blood is noticeable
  • Anazel:Sits on me and licks my face until she gets annoying
  • Wander:Walks on my chest for half an hour, when within 10 minutes of bus arriving, starts biting
  • Tiz:Softly peeps until I notice someone let him out
  • Ringabel:Yells "DAIKEN!" as loud as physically possible or tries to unconventionally give me another ear piercing

Alex (1976 – September 6, 2007) had a vocabulary of over 100 words, but was exceptional in that he appeared to have understanding of what he said. For example, when Alex was shown an object and was asked about its shape, color, or material, he could label it correctly. He could understand that a key was a key no matter what its size or color, and could figure out how the key was different from others. One day, he asked what color he was, and learned “grey” after being told the answer six times. This made him the first non-human animal to have ever asked an existential question. [x]

Alex’s last words were also “You be good, see you tomorrow. I love you.” [x]

These were the same words that Alex would say every day when his owner left the lab.
