The wonderful parrot rescue Lazicki’s Bird House is holding a fundraiser for their rescue. By having a “steak fry”.

When animal rescue organizations have fundraisers that revolve around the body parts of other animals, they are being disrespectful and hypocritical. Why would an organization dedicated to saving animals want to serve up exploited ones in hopes to make money? They aren’t even offering a vegetarian or vegan option for their supporters.

All animals are sentient. Lazicki’s is a wonderful parrot rescue who deserve to have all the donations they can get. But they are going about this the wrong way. Please leave a polite post on their wall and ask them to change their mind about serving up exploited animals while trying to help their own. If they could even just have a vegetarian meal, that would be a huge step in the right direction.

They have a chance to set a positive example for other rescues who hold fundraisers. Please please please urge them to change their minds.

(*300 left in the wild. Missed a couple of words when I was making the graphics. However I will remind that captive populations will not counter the effects of losing a species in their wild territories, nor does it seem likely that the captive population can even sustain itself in the long run as there are not enough effective healthy breeding programs. Beyond that keeping wild populations sustained is important to both aviculture as well as the planet.)

The kakapo is a critically endangered species of large, flightless, nocturnal, ground-dwelling parrot of the super-family Strigopoidea endemic to New Zealand. It has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc of sensory, vibrissa-like feathers, a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, and wings and a tail of relatively short length.

The total known population is only 126 living individuals, as reported by the Kakapo Recovery programme, most of which have been given names.Because of Polynesian and European colonisation and the introduction of predators such as cats, rats, ferrets, and stoats, the kakapo was almost wiped out. Conservation efforts began in the 1890s, but they were not very successful until the implementation of the Kakapo Recovery plan in the 1980s. (x)

There are ways you can help save the kakapo population through donations, adoptions, voluteering, becoming a supporter, or buying merchadise.

Please spread the word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t even know how to say this but I need help.

In 2013 I obtained a Blue and Gold Macaw that I named Frodo. His previous owner could no longer care for him and he was extremely aggressive and underweight. It took a few weeks but he finally warmed up to me and started to let me hold him and pet him and by 6 months he was a total sweetheart. I loved him dearly but I made myself adopt him out like I had promised myself.

Yesterday, I got a call from his new owner saying he wasn’t eating and plucking feathers pretty badly even after months of being with her. She said in three weeks shes going to post him on craigslist for 600$ but is giving me first rights. Where I will most likely never see him again.

I am absolutely terrified. This bird was my baby and I can’t imagine him being in harms way. Theres no way I can come up with an extra 600 dollars to bring my baby home, Im in college and money is really tight. My mom has offered to help pay but shes not really in the position to drop that money right now either. We can afford his general care and my mom works at a vets office where he can get free medical care anytime . Its just the jump of 600$ to get him back in the first place. The semester just started and im broke. I need help please. I hate asking for money but I cant imagine him being gone forever.

If I take him back, it will be a permanent home for him. Hes only 6 years old and is going through his terrible twos which his owner wasn’t prepped for I guess. She as been  really nice to us and has been in contanct so many times. Please help me get my tickle buddy back .

here are some pictures from when we owned him. And I have a video on my go fund me of him and his obsession with hair!

Anything you can give helps, even if its just a reblog. Please help me, I dont know what to do for him.
