paralympics 2014

Team Canada wins their first two Curling games of the Paralympics!

They first defeated Great Britain 6-3 in the morning. Next, they defeated their the host country, Russia, 5-4.

Tomorrow, they play Sweden at 15:30 (Sochi time).

Great job on the wins and keep up the great work, Team Canada!

EVERYONE IS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE US OPEN AND STUFF OBVIOUSLY

But yo the Paralympics starts Friday March 7th and you should all watch it because this is the first year that NBC is actually showing a majority of the events. Most of the time they’re showing the events live so they’re during the day but watch/record them if you can!

Here’s all the broadcasting info

The 2014 Paralympic Games

Want to feel incredibly inspired and amazed? I recommend that you join me in watching the 2014 Paralympic Games.  I’m really thankful my friend Eli Wolff, The Program Director at the Inclusive Sports Initiative for sharing with me the link to watch the opening ceremony for the Paralympic Games.  I also watched some of the videos from the first day’s events. Wow.  Speaking as someone that is currently using my stationary bike as a book shelf, seeing those dedicated athletes that have had so much to overcome just gives me chill bumps (and not just because it looks really cold there)!

The Olympic village and area around the games in Sochi were created specifically as a barrier free environment.  With over 500 athletes participating, representing 45 nations in 72 events it really is an opportunity for the world to stand up and cheer for the idea of not only a barrier free environment for all people but also barrier free minds.  These athletes are choosing to overcome so many obstacles that can’t be changed and hoping to open eyes to all the many things we can change to make the future brighter for them and for all people with disabilities. I really hope you will take a moment to watch some of the videos of the incredible strength, dignity, and agility of these athletes:

Football training in the rain today was awful.

BUT BUT BUT

A member of MY sports club actually WON TWO FUCKING MEDALS (gold and bronze) in this year’s Paralympics in Sochi! My sports club is like teeny and nothing special, and this girl just rocked and sat us at the map in Norwegian sport history!

Like seriously. How cool is it not that somebody who has nearly ALL odds against them (seriously. I have both my legs intact and even I have problems skiing fast) manages to not only ski at all, but also ski good enough to qualify in one of the worlds biggest (or probably the biggest) sport events!

I could not partake in the main ceremony (instead my team were out running in the rain ahaha). But I did pay a super quick visit after training. I have never seen real OL Gold before, how could I resist? It was really great!!!
