OVERTURECON Sunday, May 19th has an opening band!!!

We’re so pleased to announce, Tournament of Hearts as our opening band for Sunday. Come on out and check these guys out!

TICKETS HERE:  http://themintla.com/show.cfm?id=96174

Tournament of Hearts don’t believe in irony. They believe in anthems: waves of A-minors crashing up against D-major resolutions and reverb-drenched snares bouncing off the walls of Hollywood guesthouses. These five young men formed in 2012 and recorded during midnight sessions with a like-minded engineer at Interscope Records, who believed in them and the big, deep drums of R & B rather than the lo-fi offerings of typical indie records. This collaboration resulted in Local Maximum, 7 songs about starting fires, peeping toms, and throwaway lovers. Already armed with early shows at SXSW, the coming year will see the band tour the West coast, delivering live energy to songs already bursting at the seams.

Just added to our Sunday night music lineup: Bryce Soderberg and the 2ndwheel!  Get 50% off ticket price today using the coupon code “superfan” at checkout!

Bryce Soderberg and the 2ndwheel are an alternative indie-pop band based out of Los Angeles California.  Formed in the spring of 2012, the project was birthed as a result of songs written by Bryce Soderberg during his still current days as long time bassist of the Multi-Platinum rock group Lifehouse. “Initially this was just a passion project, a side-band for me.” laughs Canadian born Soderberg. “But after a few shows and getting such a positive  feedback, I don’t want to stop!”  Having worked on the upcoming self titled EP with NIne Inch Nails keyboardist Allesandro Cortini and Abandoned Pools frontman Tommy Walter, you can expect songs of heartache, happiness, in an LA lived adolecence, with sounds from the past and alternative present.

Today’s OvertureCon panelist spotlight falls on Joseph Bielski, who joins our Sunday, May 19 panel all about the rigors of Touring.

Joseph Bielski has been working in music since 2006. Originally a graphic designer from Detroit, Joseph began his career in music as a guitar tech & assistant tour manager of the band Deadsy. That opportunity led to others, and from 2006 to 2009 Joseph worked his way up from a Production Assistant to Tour Manager, touring virtually non-stop with artists including Deftones, Incubus, Panic at the Disco, The Offspring, Cut Copy, and The Presets.

In 2009 Joseph left the rigors of the road to move into artist management, becoming the day-to-day manager of the band Incubus, working under the direction of longtime manager Steve Rennie. During his tenure, Joseph helped prep and oversee release of Brandon Boyd’s debut solo album, “The Wild Trapeze”, and the 6th major-label Incubus album “If Not Now, When?”, in addition to a South American tour and the ambitious Incubus HQ project.

Joseph currently manages the band HOTT MT, and works in the music dept. of ABC Television doing music supervision and overseeing the ABC Music Lounge website. Joseph dreams of being an A&R man, and occasionally shares his opinions on music & the industry on his blog, ViciousNeutral.net.

ABOUT OVERTURECON

Music überfans Sabrina Greenwood-Briggs and Stacey Lawson longed for a more meaningful way than the traditional meet ‘n’ greet to connect fans with their favorite artists.  Thus was born OvertureCon, an experience focused on creating meaningful exchanges between up-and-coming bands and their loyal core fans in an intimate, powerful environment. The approximately 200 attendees will engage with artists at daytime panels and smaller gatherings, with the opportunity to rock the night away at exclusive shows. In addition to artists sharing their music with fans during panels and live performances, they will also be able to share other creative endeavors with fans during the convention experience.

Today our spotlight falls on panelist Kevin Bronson who will be joining OvertureCon on Sunday, May 19 for New Music Discovery.

Kevin Bronson is a veteran editor and writer who founded the website BUZZBANDS.LA in 2008. Bronson’s BUZZ BANDS column and blog ran from 2002 to ’08 in the Los Angeles Times, where he worked for 18 years. There, he gained a reputation for tipping readers to myriad unsigned artists, and the new BUZZBANDS.LA  continues that tradition, scouting L.A. and environs for the most promising emerging artists.

Bronson has also written for SPIN.com, LA Weekly and New Zealand’s Rip It Up magazine, and his collection of press badges includes the Coachella, Lollapalooza, SXSW, FYF and Detour festivals, as well as the Warped Tour.

In 2010, BUZZBANDS.LA was chosen to curate the KCRW-sponsored Also I Like to Rock series at the Hammer Museum. He hosts radio programs on Los Angeles’ KCSN (88.5 FM) and the Internet outlet Moheak.com.

Bronson, a native of Peoria, Ill., and graduate of Bradley University, is a former sports and news journalist and graphic designer who worked in the newspaper business for 34 years.

Today, OvertureCon would like to introduce you to Jessica Amezcua of Rock Star Diva Events, who will be moderating our Saturday, May 18 “Fashion & Rock” panel and our Sunday, May 19 headlining panel with the band Honor Society.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, it was only natural for Jessica to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She’s taken her love for music and event production to create a strong career in live music production. Her experience for the past six years has given her the opportunity to serve as the direct assistant, production and / or stage manager to multiple corporate executives, various charities, theater companies, venues, Grammy, Tony, Emmy and Oscar Award winning artists and musicians.

Today, OvertureCon introduces you to Owner/Creator of the artist management company It’s Your Fate, Breezy Weekes, who will be the moderator of our Women in Rock panel and participate in our Fashion panel on Sunday May 19th.

Breezy comes from a long line of family history working in the entertainment, music & arts fields. Not only did she study Art History and is an artist herself, she is an actress, model, wife of Dallon Weekes and mother of two. In 2007 Breezy launched her artist management company, It’s Your Fate. She began managing bands including her husband’s band at the time, The Brobecks.  However she always had a bigger vision for the purpose of It’s Your Fate, than just managing others.  She wanted it to be the outsource for her many ideas and projects that she creates.

Now, It’s Your Fate has expanded to be a representation of her work as well as the talent and artists she represents.

Today’s spotlight falls on the incredible Chelsea Schwartz, Executive Music Sage of High Voltage Magazine, who will be participating in our Merch and Women In Rock Panels.

Glancing deeply into her crystal ball you will see that Chelsea has been moving mountains since the age of 14. Being a Texas native, nothing stands in Chelsea’s way from attaining her lifelong dreams of joining the circus (also known as the music industry). She’s written for several publications, handled marketing campaigns for various labels, and toured the world with numerous bands. Find her today predicting tomorrow’s next big thing.

OvertureCon is pleased to announce artist manager and founder/co-owner of We Are Team Hans Kristin “Gypsy” Schloesser as a panelist for our Sunday, May 19 Touring Panel.  Tickets are available here.

Kristin’s love for music started at an early age and helped shape her future in the music industry. Currently, as the founder of We Are Team Hans, she’s helping bands around the world find creative means to fund their dreams, through innovative & integrative management/marketing.

Kristin spends her remaining time on the road tour managing various acts, including the 17-band festival Scream It Like You Mean It and the Decibel Magazine tour. Kristin’s additional experience as a touring professional includes Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Rockstar Uproar and Summer Slaughter.

More info on our exciting panelists coming soon….

Stacey & Sabrina

Our last OvertureCon panelist spotlight shines on Kyle Bylin of sidwinder.fm who has joined our Music Discovery panel on Sunday.  Please join us!

Kyle Bylin is the founder and editor of sidewinder.fm, a music and technology think tank. He is spearheading the development of the Ultimate Chart and related product strategy at Live Nation Labs, a division of the company that develops websites and mobile apps.
