CP denies keeping stolen electoral materials

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila, has denied taking custody of stolen electoral materials allegedly recovered from hoodlums in Osisioma Local Government Area contrary to some media reports.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia Command, Mr. Ezekiel Onyeke, and made available to The PUNCH in Umuahia, faulted media reports that the CP had admitted taking custody of the said recovered electoral materials.

According to some media reports, the agent of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Chief Ahamdi Nweke was said to have “tendered a handwritten note reportedly signed by the CP indicating that electoral materials recovered from the bush in Osisioma were in the police custody.”

The release read in part, “The CP wishes to state in clear terms that he did not at any time sign or issue a signed document relating to recovered election materials at Osisioma to any person or group as purportedly reported.

“ The allegation, to say the least, is the handiwork of mischief makers who are hell-bent on maliciously maligning the image of the command.

“ It is the figment of the imagination of the mischief makers and does not in any way represent the action of the CP,” the statement said.
