"and I hope that I can make you proud. Love from me at 21" (x)
Honestly 16 year old Carrie would be proud. she’s fulfilled her dream of being eponine again 12 years after playing little eponine and doing amateur shows as well. She is now writing a book which we can buy next year which we can now preorder! She’s brought a community together which are the kindest people on the planet, who are known as ‘Hopefuls’ and I don’t know of a kinder fanbase than us, I’m so so proud to be one of the 520,000. I don’t think you need to hope that you’ve made 16 old you proud because

Carrie, 16 year old you would be the proudest.

Watch on

Thank you, Mr. Secretary-General, your excellencies, ladies and gentleman, and distinguished guests.

I’m honored to be here today, I stand before you not as an expert but as a concerned citizen, one of the 400,000 people who marched in the streets of New York on Sunday, and the billions of others around the world who want to solve our climate crisis.

As an actor I pretend for a living. I play fictitious characters often solving fictitious problems.

I believe humankind has looked at Climate Change in that same way: as if it were a fiction, happening to someone else’s planet, as if pretending that Climate Change wasn’t real would somehow make it go away.

But I think we know better than that. Every week
, we’re seeing new and undeniable Climate Events, evidence that accelerated Climate Change is here now. We know that droughts are intensifying, our oceans are warming and acidifying, with methane plumes rising up from beneath the ocean floor. We are seeing extreme weather events, increased temperatures, and the West Antarctic and Greenland ice-sheets melting at unprecedented rates, decades ahead of scientific projections.

None of this is rhetoric, and none of it is hysteria. It is fact. The scientific community knows it, Industry and Governments know it, even the United States military knows it. The Chief of the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Command, Admiral Samuel Locklear, recently said that Climate Change is our single greatest security threat.

My Friends, this body - perhaps more than any other gathering in human history - now faces that difficult task. You can make history…or be vilified by it.

To be clear, this is not about just telling people to change their light bulbs or to buy a hybrid car. This disaster has grown BEYOND the choices that individuals make. This is now about our industries, and governments around the world taking decisive, large-scale action.

I am not a scientist, but I don’t need to be. Because the world’s scientific community has spoken, and they have given us our prognosis, if we do not act together, we will surely perish.

Now is our moment for action.

We need to put a price tag on carbon emissions, and eliminate government subsidies for coal, gas, and oil companies. We need to end the free ride that industrial polluters have been given in the name of a free-market economy, they don’t deserve our tax dollars, they deserve our scrutiny. For the economy itself will die if our eco-systems collapse.

The good news is that renewable energy is not only achievable but good economic policy. New research shows that by 2050 clean, renewable energy could supply 100% of the world’s energy needs using EXISTING TECHNOLOGIES, and it would create millions of jobs.

This is not a partisan debate; it is a human one. Clean air and water, and a livable climate are inalienable human rights. And solving this crisis is not a question of politics. It is our moral obligation - if, admittedly, a daunting one.

We only get one planet. Humankind must become accountable on a massive scale for the wanton destruction of our collective home. Protecting our future on this planet depends on the conscious evolution of our species.

This is the most urgent of times, and the most urgent of messages.
Honored delegates, leaders of the world, I pretend for a living.

But you do not.

The people made their voices heard on Sunday around the world and the momentum will not stop. And now it’s YOUR turn, the time to answer the greatest challenge of our existence on this planet… is now.

I beg you to face it with courage. And honesty. Thank you.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Addressing the 2014 U.N. Climate Change Summit. DiCaprio was recently named U.N. Messenger of Peace by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who participated in NYC’s Climate March on September 21, which brought in over 400,000 people.

Al-Qaida spent about $500,000 executing the 9/11 terror attacks. The U.S. government has spent up to $5 trillion fighting back. One expert estimated we’re spending about $400 million per life saved.

In other words, for every dollar the bad guys spent, we lost 10 million. And that’s not even counting the money lost due to the economic slump that followed. That, friends, is one hell of a return on an investment. Also: The 9/11 attacks killed 2,996 people. The response has killed 224,475 and displaced another 7.8 million refugees….

Keep in mind, a tsunami killed a quarter-million people in 2004, and another one killed 16,000 people in 2011, but neither caused us to refer to a “post-tsunami world.” Only terrorism can utterly dominate our thinking that way.

Oh you guys made thing so much worse with the whole "Thai friends" incident. Fans need to know their boundaries regardless of the culture and no matter what, stepping the line to harass a celebrity's friends on their sns is too much, so disrespectful. Also, the comments left on JJ's instagram are so wrong, how can people ask him to chose between friends or fans, or to protect them from his friends? How can people put him on that spot? What the fans are doing is worse than what the "friends" did.

if u dont know the whole story in detail then dont say anything

it didnt start with the fans

it started with his friends ridiculing us fans

they looked down on us

said we were jealous and lower than them

they looked down on jaejoong’s fans and jaejoong himself and they want to leech off of his fame

we’re worried for his image and for his privacy

one fan commented nicely first that maybe they should be careful about posting private pictures since even jaejoong’s best friends dont even do that because they respect him and his wishes for privacy

she was blocked

these ‘friends’ decided to ridicule fans because they didnt think jaejoong was as famous as he is

so we are standing up for him against a group of ppl that want to leech off his fame

so if u think this all started because u think fans are stupid enough to actually be jealous of jaejoong’s friends then ur dead wrong

theyre not even his friends, theyre friends of youkeun_jung or wtv that went with jaejoong so honestly if u dont know anything then dont say anything

they met jaejoong once for one day and want to shove it into everyones faces that we’re not fortunate enough to meet him and spend time with him like them

they were the ones that harassed us first

how would u feel if someone laughed at you and said wow u love him so much and dedicate so much to someone that wont even look at you

look at how stupid you are when ppl like us that are better than u get the chance to meet him

haha u wont even have a chance in hell to meet him u stupid fans

these specific group of celebrities like to befriend korean celebrities to get attention and fame

they ask for expensive things  and laugh about how ppl buy them things just because they ask

seungri is friends with them and he’s bought kongkaroon many expensive things already only to get a dumb pair of sandals in return just for laughs

expensive things as in $10,000++ gifts

thai VIPs have been upset with this specific group of ppl for a while now so it is just unfortunate for jaejoong to befriend such ppl

they are a group of wealthy ppl that believe that money and power can get them anything

they have criminal records

the specific one thats been insulting fans which is named nut has a sister that crashed into a van a few years ago and killed 9 ppl

she was 16 and she was driving illegally and she had the audacity to post her status that lol i just crashed into a van i think i killed some ppl oh well

to this day she’s never set foot in jail because their dumb family used their money and power to corruptly pay her way out

how do u think the families of those 9 ppl feel that she didnt have to be responsible at all for those deaths?

actually the nut guy himself was arrested for abusing a girl but he used his family money and name to buy his way out of jail as well

is it wrong for us to be worried for jaejoong to be associated to this sort of ppl

ppl that thai society look down on to this extent

should we allow such ppl to shed such bad light on jaejoong to the general public?

do u think us fans should just stand by and watch as these ppl leech off of his fame and let ppl in thai society look at him in the wrong way because he’s associated to these sort of ppl

theres no chance in hell i would just stand by and watch

so if u think we’re stepping over the line then so be it

not only thai cassies but fans from other fandoms such as exo and bigbang were helping us trend

u can check but just this morning kongkaroon commented that he wanted jaejoong’s LV chests if u dont believe me of their real reason for befriending other celebrities

tbh when korean celebrities post pictures of jaejoong’s private life they get backlash from korean fans to the point that they have to delete and lock their instagram

korean celebrities that get backlash for posting jaejoong’s private photos didnt even insult or ridicule fans but they didnt respect his privacy and they got backlash from korean fans

but thai fans were insulted and ridiculed and they kept posting more and more private pictures because they think its fun

they didnt think jaejoong was famous enough to be a big deal and they didnt bother to respect his privacy

i would gladly step over the line to keep jaejoong away from these ppl

tbh theyve met jaejoong once for a one night party

the way u word it is like us fans asking him to pick between fans and his members or sth

but yes i agree that fans shouldnt have commented on jaejoong’s ig to pressure him or to even try to tell him about this when it shouldnt really involve him

im not here to argue with anyone but if u dont know anything dont point fingers

if this was just fans being jealous of his friends wouldnt fans harass tons of his friends already? why is it just this specific group of ppl? because we dont need them to shed bad light on jaejoong

i dont want to sound stuck up as fuck but honestly i’ve been his fan for almost 10 years

there are thai fans that have literally liked him since hug and we try very hard for the general public to look at him as good as possible

when i go to concerts in thailand im literally like one of the youngest ppl there

there are ppl with succesful careers like doctors and professors that have been inspired and encouraged by jaejoong/dbsk for years and years

fans arent some stupid group of teenagers anymore

everyone wants whats best for him

no one would waste their time being jealous of his friends

we didnt even want this to spread to any international fandoms but its too late now so of course there are ppl that are pointing fingers without knowing a fraction of the facts

i understand ur point of view that we’re being disrespectful

but his friends were disrespectful to jaejoong from the very start

i dont give two shits if they want to disrespect me and insult me as long as they dont look down on jaejoong but did they give a shit about his privacy at all? no

did they think jaejoong was famous enough to cause such a problem? no

i dont think they can even imagine with the capacity of their minds how famous jaejoong really is

the cultural aspect of celebrity privacy in korea is way different than even in thailand

the more private pictures surface for a celebrity the cheaper their image is and their exclusive image deteriorates

if this was just as simple as fans being jealous of jaejoong’s friends

would this many ppl stand by our side and help?

would ppl that arent even fans of celebrities agree and understand us?

ive said everything ive wanted to say about this topic

im not going to argue any further about this

but just some more facts about their absolute shitiness

they went to the concert and got vip free tickets

i saw them multiple times because they sat behind me

fans werent allowed to bring drinks into the venue but these ppl bought beer and drank it during the concert and they left it in the concert venue as trash instead of picking up after themselves

they hardly watched the concert and played on their phones the whole time when there are fans that struggled so hard to get tickets

they refused to participate in the projects that the fans made

they laughed at fans that cried during the concert because they looked down on us

so yeah im just going to leave it at that

In commemoration of Operation Market Garden 70 years ago, hundreds of parachutists mainly from the English, Dutch and American militaries jumped out of historical planes today on the Ginkelse Heide near Arnhem, the Netherlands. Initially two drops were planned — the first one was cancelled due to fog, but the second one in the afternoon went ahead as planned. It was a long wait, but worth it! (Click images for bigger.)

It’s National Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris) Awareness Week!

Hopefully you’re already aware of these small marine mammals, if so consider it more of an appreciation week. These little fluffy fluffs of the sea are not only pretty important but also have some very unique and pretty cool features. Here’s 10 facts by

1. Sea otters have the thickest fur out of any marine mammal—850,000 to one million hairs per square inch!

2. Sea otters are skilled eaters: They use rocks, shells, and other tools to crush prey, which is often shellfish but also includes sea urchins and fish, while balancing the prey on their stomachs as they float on their backs.

3. Adult sea otters can eat roughly 25 to 30 percent of their body weight in one day.

4. Sea otters are the smallest marine mammal, but the largest member of the weasel family.

5. Sea otters do not have insulating fat, so all of that densely packed hair keeps their skin dry—a crucial adaptation since they live in cold environments and spend most of their lives in water.

6. To keep their skin warm and dry, sea otters spend about 15 percent of their days grooming themselves to remove dirt and debris from their fur.

7. Sea otters often sleep together in large groups called rafts so that they don’t float away from each other, and sometimes link their paws together.

8. They can close their ears and nostrils when underwater.

9. Sea otters have flaps of skin under each front leg that double as pockets to store prey when diving for food.

10. Sea otters are the only otter species that give birth in water.

Temple of Mithras: How do you put London's Roman shrine back together?

Sixty years ago, a Roman God was uncovered at a London building site. The excavations for the Temple of Mithras moved around but are now going back to the original site - how do you reconstruct a Roman temple, asks Tom de Castella.

The muddy find in September 1954 provoked urgent debate. Winston Churchill’s cabinet discussed it three times. A huge new office block - for insurance firm Legal & General - was being built on the site of the Temple of Mithras, described as the Roman discovery of the century. Building work was stopped. People would be able to see it for two weeks before the remains were packed up and moved. A few hundred visitors were expected on day one. Instead about 35,000 queued round the block. Read more.
