What makes a monster and what makes a man?

I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”

So I’ve realized that mother Gothel is one of, if not the, best villain(s) from the Disney princess movies.

Literally almost every villain’s motivation is something about becoming a king or queen, or holding some other form of power from as far back as the Little Mermaid  (Ursula) to Frozen (Hans). But not this sassy MILF, she just wants to stay pretty.

My favorite thing about Gothel is how manipulative she is. People still argue about whether or not she really loved Rapunzel. Personally, I feel that’s a big negative. Case and point, the above picture. Right before she sings mother knows best, she tells Rapunzel she stays in the tower to be safe and sound, but she also simultaneously rubs her face all over her hair like she’s a chihuahua in heat.

She’s so good at deceiving people that she can insult and yell at Rapunzel all day, but the girl always looks to Gothel for comfort, even if she’s the one making her upset. It’s like she has battered daughter syndrome.

Anyway, Gothel is far from your typical Disney villain. She’s a very well written character. It’s very clear someone put a lot of though into her character. Even the minor details say a lot about who she is.

- I was supposed to go back right after I got here, but all of a sudden, it was summer. Time sort of just flew by because you guys were so much fun.
- Yeah, but that’s not all you said.
- Well, what did I say?
