Miss America 2014 - The Fashion & Dance Review * * * * * * *

WE ARE STILL DANCING WITH THEM: It was so lovely to see fellow dancers Miss New York now Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri, Miss California 2014, Crystal Lee, and Miss Connecticut 2014, Kaitlyn Tarpey share their dance talents in the 2014 Miss America competition.

Three styles of dance, Bollywood, Ballet and Irish Tap dancing have now come to symbolise what is “dance” in American culture -an amalgamation of different cultures that make America beautiful.

As for their wardrobe choices: exquisite. I see a trend of purple, yellow and sequinned greens in 2014!

A warm and hearty congratulations to all the women again.

Thank you to The Miss America Organization and PJ Santos as well.

Paris Fashion Week S/S 14 Favorites | Jean Paul Gaultier

What fun they were having showing things that reminded us of popular culture from Coco Rocha as John Travolta in Grease to Amy Winehouse’s style. And all the more interesting with messages written on cards raised by those sitting on a desk. jPG the master of show gave a good show, not for the sake of show but because showmanship is his forte as he presents clothes for the enjoyment -you become your show in his looks

Spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear Favorites | Ralph Lauren Review * Ralph Lauren:

the official king of American lifestyle fashion presented a collection of about 50 looks that screamed: Spring is crisp, clean and cool. Starting of with black and white collared dresses, suits that echoed a Parisienne Chic meets New York cool, the collection plays with three piece suits, monochromatic patterns reminiscent of the 50s and 60. It’s not too architectural, and neither do the clothes hang too lose or too fitted on the models. The colors of choice are bright yellows, lime green, orange.

Each piece is carefully crafted so that the eye of the beholder sees the woman and the dress as one. Lauren’s easy breezy romantic Spring on his canvas that is the material of bright yellows, lime green, orange, and white.

The divine blue strapless evening gown worn by Karlie Kloss, and a red cape dress worn by Josephine Le Tutour that closed the show gave hope to women everywhere that being a princess is very possible. Of all the fashion designers alive today, Lauren has over time sold a lifestyle and image that easily captures the heart of anyone anywhere. Never assuming and always graceful, the King of American style did it well.

aRT WE LOVE | Gary Stephens and J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere at The Omenka Gallery

ABOUT J.D. ‘OKHAI OJEIKERE

J.D. ‘Okai Ojeikere was raised in rural Southwestern Nigeria in a village where photography was an exotic luxury. In 1950, he bought a modest Brownie D camera, and a neighbour taught him the rudiments of photography.

In 1967 he joined the Nigerian Arts Council, and during their festival of the following year he began to take series of photographs dedicated to Nigerian culture. This body of work, now consisting of thousands of images, has become a unique anthropological, ethnographic, and documentary national treasure. Most African photographers of his generation only worked on commission; this project, unique in its genre, flourished without any commercial support. The Hairstyle series, which consists of close to a thousand photographs, is the largest and the most thorough segment of Ojeikere’s archive. “To watch a ‘hair artist’ going through his precise gestures, like an artist making a sculpture, is fascinating. Hairstyles are an art form,” Ojeikere has commented. Ojeikere was born 1930, Ojomu Emai, Nigeria and lives and works in Ketu, Nigeria.
