Agatha Christie on the Acropolis in the 1950s. I love this pic and no I wasn’t there to take it :-) It’s not often realised that as well as writing all those books she was an archaeologist too. Each year she’d travel to the Near East and Egypt to work with her husband the great English archaeologist Sir Max Mallowan. The experience of course gave inspiration and detail for some of her best books Murder in Mesopotamia, Death on the Nile, and how did they get from England to the Near East? On the Orient Express! We’re lucky enough to have several objects excavated by Mallowan and Christie from the site of Nimrud in Iraq here in the Nicholson Museum #AgathaChristie #Parthenon #Athens #Acropolis #Greece #archaeologist #archaeology #excavation #train #luxury #murder #Mesopotamia #Iraq #Nimrud #Nile #Egypt #Greenway #NT #NationalTrust #NicholsonMuseum #Sydney #museum by museumsandgardens http://ift.tt/Y53ZOK
