Let the battle commence!

Tonight I have the privilege of watching two of the most in form teams fight it out for  a top four spot. Roberto Di Matteo’s renovated Chelsea against Alan Pardrew’s in form Newcastle United.

Despite Newcastle’s blip against Wigan at the weekend we will no doubt see The Magpies come flying out to win this game and attempt to do the unthinkable, get Champions League football. People forget that Newcastle only came back up from the Championship a couple of years ago so to be where the are is an outstanding achievement. Chelsea will need to be solid defensively to try and stop the unstoppable Papa Cisse and try and prevent Yohan Cabaye from pulling the strings in midfield. It wont be an easy task for Chelsea.

Chelsea however have become a force under RDM and his choice of tactics and the fact he and his team have been on a superb run as of late will make them difficult to stop. Chelsea will be up for the fight knowing they can’t purely rely on winning the Champions League to be in the competition next year and with RDM’s ability to get the best out of this crop of players this will be a battle and with Torres surprisingly being able to score under RDM Newcastle’s back four need to be careful of his recent eye for goal, whatever people think he is a threat.

It will be a great game when two of the most in form sides in the Premier League collide, the question is who will be the winner?

Can anyone stop Papa Cisse? I think tonight I witnessed two of the greatest strikes ever in a single game of football. His composure, technical ability and raw talent have without a doubt made him one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers.

Newcastle were fantastic tonight, Alan Pardrew got his tactics perfect. Newcastles’ shape was solid for 90 minutes they were flawless. However it is a shame to see RDM’s good luck streak come to an end however there was nothing he or the Chelsea defense could do to stop two phenomenal goals. Chelsea gave what they had left after a hectic few weeks, but it just wasn’t enough. Hopefully they will bounce back and beat Liverpool on Saturday in the FA cup. I like what they have become since RDM took charge.

Else where spurs beat Bolton 4-1 but bolton were terrible defensively and need to get that back line sorted or they will be relegated. Tottenham were looking sharper however despite the scoreline they looked like fatigue is hitting them and we will see if they can keep the sharpness at the weekend.

That’s all for tonight. I still cant get over Papa’s fantastic strikes. Well done Mr Cisse.

Sol Campbell has announced his retirement from football. The Arsenal legend, who won the double in 2001/02 season with Arsenal and his memorable partnership with Kolo Toure helped Arsenal go a full season unbeaten to win the 03/04 PL, has finaly given up on trying to find a new club and retired. His last few professional games were for Newcastle United where he made 7 appearances.

He will always be remebered by us Arsenal Fans after helping us accomplish so much whilst commanding the back four and scoring in teh Champions League final against Barcelona.

A Decorated legend and a great man who will be sorely missed on the football pitch.
