When I was walking around yesterday a little girl told her mom,
"Mira ma allí va un Chino!"
and she pointed at me and laughed.
Now I know the word chino means ‘curly hair.’ It’s used here in Mexico. But also “Chino” was a casta classification.
"Chino" in the Casta system meant indio + lobo. Lobo is indio+negro.
The word was also used as and adjective. “Ese indio se mira achinado”
Does the word chino for curly hair come from this?
What that little girl mean????
