Izzet Artifacts aka: BURNIFACTS!

So hey everyone! I’m honestly not much of a Standard player, mainly just Modern and slowly getting into Legacy. Anyways, I’ve been play testing an Izzet Artifact deck to try my hand at that oh so sweet Game Day Playmat and I thought I’d show everyone what I landed on.

BURNIFACTS

  • 4 Illusory Angel
  • 4 Phyrexian Revoker
  • 3 Frenzied Goblin
  • 4 Ornithopter
  • 4 Stoke the Flames
  • 4 Lightning Strike
  • 4 Shrapnel Blast
  • 4 Prophetic Prism
  • 3 Springleaf Drum
  • 4 Ensoul Arifacts
  • 4 Steam Vents
  • 3 Temple of Epiphany
  • 4 Shivan Reef
  • 4 Mountain
  • 3 Island
  • 4 Darksteel Citadel

I decided to take the red Burn route with Shrapnel Blast, Stoke the Flames, and Lightning Strikes, over other slightly higher curve lists with Generator Servent and Scuttling Doom Engine because of the quick explosiveness that the burn version tends to have. I also of course splashed blue for Ensoul Artifact and surprisingly Illusory Angel, who I was skeptical about at first. But after some play testing she’s a power house! Yes, she can sometimes be a dead draw or heaven forbid I have more than one in hand, but with 10 cards with CMC 1 or less it’s not hard to get her on the field turn 3 or 4. Also can I just say, Prophetic Prism is probably the best card in the deck. Or maybe the blue “I love drawing cards” mage in me is leaking..

Onto the sideboard!

  • 3 Anger of the Gods
  • 2 Pithing Needle
  • 3 Void Snare
  • 1 Scuttling Doom Engine
  • 3 Darksteel Ingot
  • 3 Negate

Okay, first off I want to address the odd choice of Scuttling Doom Engine and Darksteel Ingot. My reasoning for the Ingots are 1) more Indestructible choices for Ensoul Artifact and 2) all the fixing. Okay plus it’s good to board both against Mono B Devotion and Control lists. Basically games that will go slightly longer, and those mixed with the Negates really improve some match ups I was struggling with. Pithing Needle is pretty explanatory, Revoker 5-6 that can hit Mutavault. Void Snare is for Monsters and other pesky creature based decks. And Anger of the Gods is for any smaller based creature strategies, yeah it can hurt us but I can just sac and Shrapnel Blast in response!

Alright well that’s it for today, hopefully everyone liked my fun to play BURNIFACTS list and I’ll probably write how I do in Game Day once…well Game Day happens!
