Hilltop Mine by im me on Flickr.

This is a view of some of the remnants of Hilltop Mine. They did lead, zinc, silver, copper, and gold mining in the area. Lots of great old mining relics in the area.

On the left is Mount Sherman (14036 feet) with White Ridge (13684 feet) extending to the right. In the distance to the right of White Ridge is Sheep Mountain, to its right you can see Fourmile Creek Road making its way up. Sherman is one of the easiest 14ers to hike. Lots of people on the summit by my second time though.

Also went to Mount Sheridan and Gemini Peak (a set of twins as might be expected) on this hike. These are all part of the Mosquito Range. Most of what you see here is in the Pike National Forest. I’ve now hiked 7 of the 14000 foot peaks and 36 of the 13000 foot peaks in Colorado.

Mounted on a Sherman M4, the T34 rocket launcher had 60 tubes that fired a 4.5" rocket to a maximum effective range of 3,900 yards. The T34 was only made in small numbers and was assigned to the 2nd Armored division in France. A problem with the T34 was that the tubes started to break up after only 4 salvoes and tube life was only 15 - 20 salvoes. The rockets could be fired singley or in salvo.

Mount Sherman - Lake and Park counties, CO - 14,036 ft (4,278 m)

Oskar Blues Deviant Dale’s - Double IPA - 8% ABV

GPS Track

It’s the last Monday before I have to go back to working a Mon-Fri job like a sucker.  Oh well - have to fund my habits somehow, right?  Since it was the last one, the wife and I decided to try to get out and do something big.  Neither of us have much in terms of winter/snow gear, so we thought we might have a hard time with this mountain so early in the season.  I guess we just got lucky that it was such a dry winter.  After getting to the summit we decided to keep going and bag Gemini Peak since it was so close.

Deviant Dale’s was the beer for the day.  SO glad that Oskar Blues started canning this beer.  I had tried it before at various festivals and at their joints.  Always loved it.  You know it’s going to be good when it takes home silver in the IPA category at GABF last year.  And it certainly didn't disappoint at elevation either!  16oz at 8% over 14k ft?  I’m no math wiz, but I am pretty sure that equals HAPPY FUN TIME!

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out. You left me in the dark. No dawn, no day, I’m always in this twilight, in the shadow of your heart - Florence + the Machine

(Sometimes things in your life happen for a reason. I don’t know what the reason behind this is though and I don’t think I’ll ever know. What I do know is that because of it I shut off the people that are trying to get close to me. It’s too hard to let them in.)
