So last night I hopped on a train from Reading to Paddington, cruised through with my Oyster up to Notting Hill Gate and descended into the sweatbox that is YoYo.

This on-a-whim journey was spurred by the fact one of my favourite Moombahton (not that there are many) DJs, Dillon Francis was making his (second) debut in the UK.

Moombahton has been fueling my speakers and my radio show since the beginning of this academic year and I’ve been following Dillon for about 6 months now and as Depeche Mode would say I just can’t get enough.

It first started with his awesome, dancefloor coaxing remix of Robyn’s ‘Dancehall Queen’ orginally produced by his pal Diplo. It was my summer anthem while I was trapsing my way through South East Asia making a nightly appearance while we wolfed down some Sam sung buckets.

As soon as I heard he was going to be in the UK, Mike and I raced to get an interview with him for LSRfm.com. Thankfully, he willingly obliged and we met up with him yesterday on the Notting Hill Gate road outside a Tex-Mex restaurant.

N.B edited interview will be up soon and broadcast on air sometime in May- it sounds brilliant though even through London traffic noises.

Dillon is such a nice guy and a seriously snappy dresser complete with a tiepin. What stuck me most about him was when he told us that he would prefer to make money from playing shows then from people buying his music which is why he is so generous with soundcloud and facebook releases. In the age of digital music I think that is a totally refreshing way to look at music sales and fully commend him on his beliefs.

Dillon played such a sick set with my personal highlights being Munchi’s Esta Noche and his new remix of Toddla T’s Take It Back which was Zane Lowe’s ‘HRITWRN’ track on Monday. Pretty sweet accolade for someone who has only been in the country for 3 weeks.

Dillon had a super crew of Moombahton rapscallions to support him including man of the moment Toddla T himself and the ever cool Sinden, who incredibly remembered me from our interview in October and kindly let me rip his music and part of the interview for my pathway to stardom radio demo. Repping a Grizzly tshirt as ever.

It was the first time I’d been to YoYo and the sweaty atmosphere, duttywhin’ loaded, slickly dressed, inexcusably expensive drinks made a nice break from the grime heavy, dingy basements of Leeds.

Everyone should check out the tweet machine Dillon Francis not only coz he is the face of the transworld Moombahton movement but because he has arguably the best hair in the business. And when I told him his first soundcloud picture made me think he was a goth, he laughed it off with a millon dollar hollywood smile.
