First day of Islamic Awareness Week.

MashAllah, Today we had an amazing kick off to Islamic Awareness Week with our Fundraising Event for “Mercy to Mankind”. A non-profit organization founded by Marymount Student, Alia Mohamed. The organization is dedicated to aiding impoverished, orphaned children in drought-ravaged Somalia. JazakAllah Khair to all of our generous donors, we raised $1100! Alia told us how $7 a month would provide a child with housing, tuition, 30 days of food and much more! Imagine how our generous donations will help these children and many more!

We also had Brother Osama from the famous partytilfajr tumblr blog, visit us and give a small lecture on Orphans in Islam, and not to mention Henna and delicious food for lunch! Thank you once again to all of those who supported us, we couldn’t have done it without you!

We might not understand certain actions or ideologies, but we understand displays of humanity. We are all, universally, touched by kind deeds and kind words, by shows of mercy and compassion and empathy. We need people who feed us stories of hope, rather than parables of punishment. We all fall in love with a beautiful character. <3

Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Masud reports:
Once the holy Prophet (sallAllaho alaihi wa ala alihi wa sallam) asked me to recite the Quran to him. I said: “O Messenger of Allah! The Holy Quran has been revealed to you and you ask me to recite it to you!”
“It is my wish,” he said,”that I hear it from some other person.” So I began to recite, beginning from the Surah An Nisa, and when I reached this verse:” But how(will it be with them) when, We bring of every people a witness, and We bring thee (O Muhammad) a witness against these,”(4:41). I chanced to glance at his auspicious face and saw that tears were rolling down from his eyes.
