As we followed the Benedictine Monk from a safe distance I was captivated by the towering Saint Menrad Archabbey. Our trip this day was not to Switzerland or even Europe but Spencer County Indiana.
By the time we’d reached the steps the monk had disappeared and there was no one to follow or any signs to tell us what to do. So unlike any important religious edifice previously visited; conspicuously absent were the beggars.
My wife tugged tenatively at the massive door and it opened smoothly. We went in.
