Birthday adventure time

This past Saturday was my 27th birthday. In stark contrast to my big dinner last year, I decided to keep it low-key and not plan anything. However, my friends are amazing and very spontaneous, so they decided to take me out! I To give it some leeway, I dropped my usual vegan dietary choice for the week, ate at various restaurants with foods I have not had in a year, and had VERY small amount of alcohol (I know, shocking).

My birthday-week celebration started with the gorgeous Ms. Bei (IG: @stuntpilot) on Wednesday a la adventures in San Francisco. Hung out with her cats, took the BART, then randomly discovered a weekly used-book sale SFPL hosted. Hayes Valley: shopped for the perfect boots, had some macarons & tea at Chantal Guillons, early dinner at Tommy’s Joynt. Union Square: more shopping, Joy Luck Book Club discussions with An at Levi’s. Topped the day off with some Blue Bottle, said Hello to @Aphrodizeac, then back Oakland where we watched Piranha with Kyle at their apartment.

My little man decided to take me out for a birthday lunch also. He paid with his “own money”. Such a sweetheart ^_^.

Thursday was spent with my bff, Patricia, where we got dolled up and had an evening of sushi and free drinks (courtesy of a gentleman who was on a business trip from Seattle) over at Blush. Live music, delicious seafood, and lovely company was had. Though, I could’ve made do without all the alcohol-induced caressing from the Sir who bought all my drinks that evening.

Then Friday adventuring with Jonny rolled around where he took me to the Walt Disney Family Museum’s adult night! We played dress up, saw bits of Fantasia, ran into a gypsy, had Absinthe, and broke all sorts of dietary restrictions in one evening. Dinner from Burma Superstar included chili lamb, garlic noodles w/ duck, & brown rice - coz you know I’m watching my figure. Desserts at Akiba was had, ordered The Pyramid honey toast w/ nutella & pudding gelato, and ingested some crazy Dragon Ball Z dairy infused energy drink. Paid homage to Smuggler’s Cove, ordered a super strong drink called The Twenty Seventy Swizzle (creeper!), and sipped some of his Puka Punch. Drinks here are not a joke. You’ve been warned. This night was easily the highlight of my week, not forgetting to mention the awesome duet we had. 100 karaoke points!!

P.S. Thanks for the mean bottle of Buchanan’s Scotch Whisky ^_^.

Spent Saturday in SF again, this time with Mr. Jan Rodrigo. We originally were going to ride off into the sunset on his CBR, but the sun became nonexistent in his area after 5pm, coz you know, DC livin’. Ended up eating ramen at Tanpopo, ordered the seafood ramen & had some maguro (oh how I’ve missed thee!). Went to 100% Sweet Cafe & tried to win some tips from passersby with a fake guitar and cowbell & drum apps. No one was impressed, and we didn’t earn any tips for playing. After we were seated, I ordered the Virgo ice cream thing. I don’t normally care for sweets, but why not? It was the actual date of my birth! Had the worst birthday ever out here /s/.

Sunday funday! Mel took me out for a ride on his GSXR up the 9, 84, and 92. There’s a vista point where you can overlook the whole peninsula, and I saw NASA’s hangars from there, too, which was quite awesome. The route isn’t too unfamiliar to me since I usually drive up that same way to get to my family’s favorite camping grounds in Pescadero, but to experience the ride on a motorcycle is such an adrenaline rush! I’m def getting one. Went to Sam’s Chowder House and had some more bomb seafood, satiating my craving with New England clam chowder, fried calamari (the last time I had this was at NoLa’s with Mel over a year ago when we first started hanging out), and their famed lobster roll. Washed it down with 1.5 glasses of the Sea Sweeper which is also a creeper, but it helped to keep me warm on the ride back home.

Mel also gave this to me as a gift from his trip to Magic this past week. I am so frakking lucky! Best hoodie EVER!
