F***. That’s what you say after you are done reading this issue. With a story that has been running since October 2003, issue number 100 was a definite jaw dropper.
Ok, so I have been waiting to review this issue because I wanted to wait for most people to read it! If you are that person under a rock I suggest you stop reading now.
Now if you are a zombie fan like I am you will notice that The Walking Dead is as real as it gets. NO ONE IS SAFE. The scariest part of the series aren’t the zombies, but the people. Some of the greatest moments in the series have to do with what “people” do. The Walking dead isn’t your classic zombie movie where one wrong turn leads you to death by a herd of zombies; there are many herds of zombies that are either killed or outrun. Just shows you how strong people can be and how zombies aren’t the only thing to worry about if the zombie apocalypse ever happens.
When you thought you were safe by the unfortunate death of Abraham, he throws a curve ball with the conclusion to the “Something to Fear” storyline (which started back in issue #97) with having Glenn beat to death with a barbed wired bat. Glenn who saved Rick from being stuck in the tank. Glenn who knows how to raid cities for supplies (which I believe he uses parkour, but that’s just my fantasy). Glenn who found love within hell. Glenn who brings comical relief to the group….is gone. Now with the introduction of Negan, who can 1-up The Governor, the series has now gotten a new villain.
With Governor killing some of my favorite characters… and a baby, I’m simply left with hope that Kirkman doesn’t relapse on how to kill major characters. I’m rooting for a different way to build up tension than the classic mob boss shakedown.
All in all, it was a great issue that definitely deserved being #100. What I really enjoy about the series are the little things like moment shared between Rick and Michonne in which they appreciate each other. With record breaking sales, The Walking Dead series will be a storyline that my kids will read. But hey, The Governor was left for dead and his eye was hanging out, MAYBE GLENN CAN MAKE IT! Now recently watching “Fight Club” never has this line fit so perfectly,” On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.”
