riza and roy’s soldier narratives are both really compelling bc of how opposite they are - as a sniper, riza had a recognition of personhood with every person she killed, a deliberate aiming at their single body and personal kill. as a state alchemist whose specialty is in Essplosions, roy caused Massive Huge Impersonal Destruction every time he snapped his fingers. both of these narratives cause huge ptsd in both of them, but it’s different for both of them. riza will always feel a very personal guilt, whereas roy will literally be knocked back into the moment of destruction, reminded of the Sheer Power, whenever he does alchemy. i just think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD these two soldiers are constructed so well!!!!!!!!!!!!! arakawa really understood how to make characters in similar roles distinct and yet still mesh well, oh my god
