maurella

According to BR’s:

Faerie birth, unlike human birth, is one of the most pleasurable experiences possible. Some even say it’s better than sex, and Maurella’s reactions would seem to confirm this.

Freed from the biological requirements that plague earthly creatures, faeries breed often and quickly. Ever since she came of age 482 years ago, Maurella has been with a number of partners, mostly fae but with an occasional human thrown in for the sake of genetic variety.

Faeries always give birth to multiple offspring. While quadruplets and quintuplets are the norm, it’s not unheard of for litters to number as high as eight. Because they have mixed parents, Andy and Maurella’s children will be half-fae, half-human. Because female faeries breed so often, they usually leave the litter with the father in order to begin seeking out their next mate. This occurs regardless of the father’s species.

Back to Warlow contract for a moment:

The actual shape of the glyphs reminded me of one of the oldest undeciphered writing systems, known as Byblos syllabary, dating to the 2nd millennium BC. Another similarity is that this syllabary has 1046 different characters which is incredibly high for any writing system and possibly a factor that contributed to this syllabary remaining undeciphered. Another candidate is perhaps Old Negev script, the oldest alphabet found (known as Proto-Sinaitic); this writing has been largely deciphered. Some scholars believe that the Vinča (Vinca, near Belgrade, Serbia) symbols represent the earliest form of writing ever found, predating ancient Egyptian and Sumerian writing by thousands of years. Since the inscriptions are all short and appear on objects found in burial sites, and the language represented is not known, it is highly unlikely they will ever be deciphered.

The method of deciphering coded texts is finding the key. When I saw Maurella lighting up the contract and certain letters being lit up I was instantly reminded of one of the most famous parchments, the one found in Rennes Le Chateau. The small parchment in question had a text written in Merovingian age Latin with all the words connected. However some letters were slightly raised. Those letters reveal one sentence. The second, larger parchment was indeed very difficult to decipher, due to the deliberate misspelling and only once a particular key was applied - movement of the chess figure of knight, a so-called “Knight’s Tour.”

La Belle Dame sans Merci “The Beautiful Lady Without Mercy”

a ballad written by the English poet John Keats

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake,
And no birds sing.

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
So haggard and so woe-begone?
The squirrel’s granary is full,
And the harvest’s done.

I see a lily on thy brow,
With anguish moist and fever-dew,
And on thy cheeks a fading rose
Fast withereth too.

I met a lady in the meads,
Full beautiful—a faery’s child,
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild.

I made a garland for her head,
And bracelets too, and fragrant zone;
She looked at me as she did love,
And made sweet moan

I set her on my pacing steed,
And nothing else saw all day long,
For sidelong would she bend, and sing
A faery’s song.

She found me roots of relish sweet,
And honey wild, and manna-dew,
And sure in language strange she said—
‘I love thee true’.

She took me to her Elfin grot,
And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild wild eyes
With kisses four.

And there she lullèd me asleep,
And there I dreamed—Ah! woe betide!—
The latest dream I ever dreamt
On the cold hill side.

I saw pale kings and princes too,
Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
They cried—‘La Belle Dame sans Merci
Thee hath in thrall!’

I saw their starved lips in the gloam,
With horrid warning gapèd wide,
And I awoke and found me here,
On the cold hill’s side.

And this is why I sojourn here,
Alone and palely loitering,
Though the sedge is withered from the lake,
And no birds sing.

I liked this poem because it is about the Beautiful Fae lady without mercy and that is how Andy perceived Maurella. And this knight feeling all morose afterwards is how Andy felt when he spoke to Arlene, back at home.

What’s the frequency, Elder?

In S5E11 we meet the Fairy Elder and Maurella informs us: “She operates on many frequencies at once. Time has no meaning for her.” Also the Elder is enquiring about music as well as dancing.

Frequency, time, harmony, acoustics and movement are all defined categories in physics and correlated.

Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit time. The period is the duration of one cycle in a repeating event, so the period is the reciprocal of the frequency. Time–frequency analysis comprises those techniques that study a signal in both the time and frequency domains simultaneously. When two frequencies are brought together, the lower will always rise to meet the higher.  This is the principle of resonance.

Ancient cultures such as Incan, Mayan, Hopi, and other Native American Tribes, plus the Babylonians, Ancient Greeks, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism have a concept of a wheel of time, that regards time as cyclical and quantic consisting of repeating ages that happen to every being of the Universe between birth and extinction.

Until Einstein’s profound reinterpretation of the physical concepts associated with time and space, time was considered to be the same everywhere in the universe, with all observers measuring the same time interval for any event. Non-relativistic classical mechanics is based on this Newtonian idea of time. Einstein, in his special theory of relativity, postulated the constancy and finiteness of the speed of light for all observers. Events that are space-like could be simultaneous in some frame of reference, and there is no frame of reference in which they do not have a spatial separation. The parameter of Time is an indication of measure. But, like height, width and depth, which define the perception of 3D, it is only a perception.  You are not moving through Time and Space.  Time and Space move through you in this moment. Modern string theory can be formulated in terms of an action principle; string dynamics are governed by tension and kinetic energy, which combine to produce oscillations. The quantum mechanics of strings implies these oscillations exist in discrete vibrational modes.

In 1905, Albert Einstein proved that we can break matter down into smaller components and that, when we do, we move beyond the material realm and into a realm in which everything is energy.

This is the Law of Vibration, a law of nature that states that ‘nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.’ The difference between the manifestations of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual result simply from different levels of vibrating energy or frequencies. In 1974, Dr. Colin W.F. McClare, Ph.D, an Oxford University Bio-Physicist, discovered that frequencies of vibrating energy are roughly 100 times more efficient in relaying information within a biological system than physical signals, such as hormones, neurotransmitters and other growth factors. Although most frequencies exist outside of our normal range of perception, they can be perceived as both colours and sounds.  So the colour blue is also heard as the musical key of D, which vibrates at 587 Hz. But what is most interesting is that, if a frequency is vibrating fast enough, it’s emitted as a colour of Light. If we wanted to convert sound to Light, we would simply raise its frequency forty octaves.  This results in a vibration in the trillions of cycles per second.

The Earth has a vibrational frequency that is known as the Schumann Resonance.

A Canadian physicist, John K. Hutchison, while working in an attempt to build a Tesla coil,  felt a chunk of metal hit his shoulder.  When he threw it back in the direction from which it came, it flew up and hit him again.

That was when he discovered that fundamental frequencies can act as a shield against the force of gravity.  This phenomenon is now called the Hutchison Effect.

The link between music and universe is an ancient one too. Music of the spheres or Musica universalis is an ancient philosophical concept that regards proportions in the movements of celestial bodies as a form of music. This ‘music’ is not usually thought to be literally audible, but a harmonic and/or mathematical and/or religious concept. In a theory known as the Harmony of the Spheres, Pythagoras proposed that the Sun, Moon and planets all emit their own unique hum (orbital resonance) based on their orbital revolution.

Some scientists believe that each frequency of the musical scale of Solfeggio has specific spiritual and physical healing properties. The frequency assigned to Mi (for “Miracles”) 528 Hz, is said by proponents of the idea to be the exact frequency used by genetic engineers throughout the world to repair DNA.

Fearies and salt

We saw Maurella eating or rather ‘drinking’ salt and soon after that she broke her light, i.e. her labor begun. This is interesting because according to many faery legends faeries fear salt.

In Gotland, small beings called Di sma undar jordi live under the earth. These beings leave flattened circles in fields, like mini-crop circles, in the centre of which mortals still leave coins, milk, linseeds, beer or salt to prevent or cure illness.

The archetypal elemental spirits of the Earth, gnomes, originate in northern Europe. These ancient dwarf-like creatures are said to live mainly underground or in deep forests for a thousand years. Earth elementals are invoked in magic through ritual objects associated with the Earth element, such as the bell, pentacle and cauldron or ritual dish, and through crystals, herbs, salt and bread. They provide a focus for spells for protection, for animals, in herb magic and for property, fertility and prosperity.

In Viking mythology, giants were also the enemies of the gods. However, because of their vital role in the creation myths their realm, Jotunheim, was on the uppermost level of Yggdrassil, the World Tree, parallel with Asgard, home of the gods. In Norse mythology, ice from Niflheim in the north and fire from Muspellheim in the south fused in the vast chasm of Ginnungagap, bringing forth life. The first two beings were Ymir the frost giant and Audumla, the primal cow/mother. Audumla licked a pillar of salt ice and brought forth Buri, the first of the gods, who married the giantess Bestia. She gave birth to three sons who became the gods of the Aesir, Odin (spirit), Vili (will) and Ve (holiness), or according to some versions Odin, Hoenir (the Shining One) and Loki, the Trickster, God of Fire. The gods fought with the frost giants and eventually killed Ymir.

In general, faeries dislike salt, but eat fresh meat and drink pure water. Pixies, like fairies very much enjoyed milk, and people of miserly nature used to put salt around a cow to keep the pixies away. The peasants of Ireland used to take precautions against the fairies, salt and iron are two substances the fairies cannot withstand.  So sprinkling the ground around your house with salt could protect you from them. Parents of a new baby could keep their child safe from abduction by the Fae by using one of several simple charms: a wreath of oak and ivy kept faeries out of the house, as did iron or salt placed across the door step.

Defense against The Tuatha De Dannan: Like all fairies, the Tuatha De Dannan fear iron objects and salt. Salt repels evil fairies and other spirits. It is possible to prevent a child being stolen by fairies by tying up a little packet of salt in its dress. A pinch of salt was placed in a baby’s crib to protect it from evil. Salt prevents the corruption and decay of food and has become a powerful symbol of defense against malfeasance.
