Masquerade Mask Pattern
by Yarn Bombing Los Angeles

created with a size G hook and Caron simply soft yarn (slightly lighter than worsted)

FIRST ROW…

Ch 22, join into a circle. Ch 22, join into a circle where the other join is (CENTER JOIN) so you have a figure 8 shape. These are your ‘eyes’.

SECOND ROW

EYE 1

SC 5, HDC 4, DC 2, TC 3, DC 1, HDC 1, SC 14.

EYE 2 - continuing from where you left off at EYE 1, you will do the same but in reverse because you’re starting at the bottom edge of the eye.

SC 14, HDC 1, DC 1, TC 3, DC 2, HDC 4, SC 5

THIRD ROW - Embellishment - advanced crocheters feel free to switch this up!

EYE 1

Sl St 2, Ch 1. Now turn around and Sl St 1 in the second stitch from the CENTER JOIN on EYE 2, so that the Ch 1 acts as a bridge between the two EYES. You will then start crocheting around EYE 2.

EYE 2

Ch 6, sl st in the third stitch. Repeat three times.

Ch 5, sl st in the third stitch. Repeat twice.

Ch 4, sl st in the third stitch.

Sl st 2. You should be two stitches away from the CENTER JOIN, if not, Sl st until you are at that point. Ch 2 and then Sl St 1 in the second stitch from the CENTER JOIN on EYE 1 to create a connecting bridge. These help maintain structure to the mask.

EYE 1 - repeat instructions for EYE 2, in reverse.

Sl st 1.

Ch 4, sl st in the third stitch.

Ch 5, sl st in the third stitch. Repeat twice.

Ch 6, sl st in the third stitch, Repeat three times.

Weave in ends.

FINISHING

Tie the strings for the mask to the Sl St after the fourth Ch 6 on the top of the mask. Put on your mask and woo some secret admirers with your air of intrigue!

Somewhere between the buzz of Indian Summer locusts and the deafening silence of new fallen snow is a fleeting, exhilarating bliss known as Autumn. It arrives in radiant splendour, summoning our primal urges to feather our nests. The aroma of tea and soup is more enticing and we find a hundred ways to savour an apple. Cords of seasoned hickory are stacked outside in anticipation of a roaring hearth as we greet the longer nights with cosy bedclothes. The moon demands more attention, luring us into a state of Halloween lunacy. Masquerade and ghost stories appease our hunger for intrigue. We stock up on candles, sensing the dramatic excitement that rivals the energy of those scurrying bushy tails.
