Beautiful article by AO Scott and Manohla Dargis in the NYT today about how the representation of female characters in movies is changing - for the better.

I had to squeeze into the very front row to see this at BAM last night.  as the trailers run, i’m grumbling “how am i gonna get through 2 hrs 45 min of a stiff neck craned upwards?”

2 hrs 45 min later, I am hoping that this movie never ends.

And somehow, I am ready to watch it all over again immediately.

As Manohla Dargis so beautifully (and accurately) writes in the NY Times:

“In ‘Boyhood,’ Mr. Linklater’s masterpiece, he both captures moments in time and relinquishes them as he moves from year to year. He isn’t fighting time but embracing it in all its glorious and agonizingly fleeting beauty.”

"Even in its altered form, ‘The Grandmaster’ is one of the truly galvanizing cinematic experiences of the year."
- Manohla Dargis, @nytimes movie review
