My brother said that one of highlights of today’s Maniototo roadtrip was going to be an old tuberculosis hospital, and he was right (as big brothers like to think they always are). I’m fascinated with disused/abandoned/repurposed institutions. Viewing imposing, clinical architecture amplifies stories of abuse and distress and lessens stories of recovery and redemption. They can be eerie places.
