Pippo Maniero was signed on Venezia’s return to Serie A, and initially struggled
along with the rest of the team.
When Recoba joined, however, he was transformed, forming a potent partnership with El Chino. His form continued after Recoba left, even coming close to topping the capocannonieri charts with 18 goals in 2001/2.
In total he scored 54 goals for Venezia.
He never recaptured that form for Palermo or Torino, and his professional career
came to an ignominious end after a season at Rangers where he didn’t get a
game. But to all arancioneroverdi he will always be a hero.
