Tori Amos’ "Cornflake Girl" is a classic not only because of her legendary original, but because of how it sounds when made again. Jawbox’s version, as an example, is amazing. Lyla Foy has now recorded a version, and it sounds sleek, modern and beautifully lit. You can download this one via the link above, and be sure to listen to her Mirrors the Sky LP, out now on Sub Pop.

LYLA FOY : HONEYMOON

Lyla Foy - Easy

At the beginning of the year, we compiled a list of bands and artists that we were looking forward to hear more in 2013. On that list was WALL, now recording under her own name, Lyla Foy. The change in name is perhaps a good idea, WALL was not the most “google-able” name.

Regular visitors to the blog will know that we are big fans of Lyla’s music. She has had a great year with the release of her excellent debut EP Shoestring (which I have played over and over again).

A couple of weeks ago it was announced that she had signed to Sub Pop records. It is so deserved that Lyla has been signed to such an influential record label. Her first release on the label is the single Easy.

Perfect Sunday listening.
