um i think you should read them first. i feel like the people who are just watching are missing a lot of the richness that martin puts into the plot. you get so much more from the books. and it makes watching it more fun

Book first, but that means that you have to read at least the first 2 or 3 before starting the show because they tie things in together. Also, apparently the show is harder to understand without the books, as you go on.

Maybe whatever you have time for? If you have a lot of down time or are a fast reader, go with the books. If you’re like me, busy and a slow read, go with the show and hope that one of these days you get to the mountain of books you want to read.

I saw two episodes, than started reading and now I want to read first. I haven’t really got time, but I’ve fallen to like the books, so it doesn’t matter.

I watched the first season and then read the book, then I read the second book before the second season. I prefer reading the books first. So much more happens and I find it a lot more suspenseful. :)

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE ADVICE!!! I’m just starting A Clash of Kings and I’m going to try and catch up at least to what I’ve seen in the show (the last episode that aired), but from what I’ve heard (regarding the soundtrack of Season 2) there’s about to be a huuuge event that everyone is totally traumatized by or something… Can’t decide if I want to be traumatized by a book or by a show!
