"Mycroft, I think has removed the idea of any physical intimacy even more than his brother. I have to say on a personal level if I were to have a relationship with Rupert Graves I’d be very happy. But that’s me talking! I’ve had a crush on Rupert since I was about fourteen. Who hasn’t?” - Mark Gatiss about Mystrade and his own feelings towards Rupert Graves during a Q&A session at Mumbai Film and Comic Con (x)

polasezo13 said: Hi Cassie! I’m very glad you are answering Malec questions because I have one! Does Alec know Magnus’s real name? Will we ever know his reaI name? Magnus and Alec are my favorite characters, and I personally loved Alec in City of Heavenly Fire. I identify myself with him a lot, I’m just like him. I also loved Maia. She’s very strong and I admire her for that. Congratulations, CoHF was beautiful. Now I will sit in a chair and I won’t move (unless I’m hungry) until TDA (I love Ty) comes out.

Magnus is Magnus’ real name.

Warlocks can choose a last name. It’s part of their culture. Shade, Loss, Fell, Fade, Bane, are all names the warlocks picked for themselves. Warlocks can of course rename themselves anything they want any time they want, but the noun last name is a tradition. Magnus picked Bane. I think there’s a story in why, and what his last name was before (Dutch), and yes, at this point, Alec knows it.

clace-malec-and-mangoes said: Hey Cassie! I was just wondering, if malec were to (hypothetically) adopt a non-immortal child that was not a downworlder (in other words, a mundane) do you think Alec would want them to ascend? Or would he maybe prefer to save them from the danger of that lifestyle? How do you think Magnus would feel about it?

Kids can choose to train to be Shadowhunters when they’re about ten. (They can also refuse, and in a Shadowhunter family that once meant the child was sent away, but rules have changed during TMI.) I think they would leave it to the child to decide if they wanted to pursue Shadowhunter training. They would then leave the choice of Ascending, which is optional (if you don’t, you’re not a Shadowhunter, but there’s no other punishment) to the child as well.

There is not much else you can do: attempting to force your children to either be in your line of work or not be in your line of work usually ends badly. Both Magnus and Alec are likely aware, for different reasons, that you cannot force things on your children and that includes removing their options.

The Music So Far...

comicbookmama, yes there is such a thing as aboriginal Australian astronomy. When they looked at the Milky Way they would see an Emu trailing across the heavens.

There’s a field known as ‘archeoastronomy’ which is an anthropological approach to the sky.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the Australian people’s ancient approach to astronomy I’d recommend this blog.

If there’s much interest in this topic I can write a larger post. Any takers?

Do you have any advice for those of us who aren't good at small talk? Recruitment is always a struggle for me because even when I have interesting questions I'm simply bad at talking about surface-level topics.

First of all, once you ask a question, and the conversation gets going, it doesn’t have to be surface only like “What’s your major?” The whole idea is to hit upon something that interests both people and for the talk to start flowing more deeply. You might want to review your questions for PNMs and get more creative in what you talk about. If you are not interested in what your discussing, it will be slow and painful.

The VERY BEST tip for making small talk with strangers is to totally focus on THEM. Ask them about their hometown, interests, favorite memories and use creative ice breakers to get them talking about themselves. When they reveal something you also like, take the ball and run with it! Really listening and engaging is vital.

For example, you can’t zone out while a PNM is chatting about her trip to Ireland over the summer. Instead, you relate her story to the summer you studied at Oxford and also visited Ireland. Soon you are talking easily about the food, the weather and the amazing castles in Great Britain. That might lead to even more conversation about her competitive Irish dancing experience which relates to your many years of ballet dancing. The conversation builds and winds around your mutual areas of interest.

Recruitment Conversation Structure:

  • ASK

But even if you don’t hit on anything in common, you can still be an interested and inquisitive “detective.” Think of each girl as having several fascinating secrets and you are there to uncover them. Be passionately inquisitive. You will learn so much and be genuinely entertained. And the PNMs will be flattered that you’re so fascinated by them. If you genuinely care, and you go beyond the typical dry surface questions, you will connect better with each PNM. Is it exhausting? Yes! But so thrilling when you’re looking for new sweet sisters to join your chapter. It’s totally exciting! xoxo ;)
