The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described in the Book of Revelation. The chapter tells of a book or scroll in God’s right hand that is sealed with seven seals. The Lamb of God opens the first four seals, summoning four riders each astride white, red, black, and pale horses. The riders are commonly interpreted as symbolising conquest, war, famine, and death, although in popular culture conquest is often substituted for pestilence. In Christian faith it is believed that the Four Horsemen are set to bring a divine apocalypse upon the world, as harbingers of the Last Judgement.
