"The One and Only," styled by Grace Coddington & photographed by Tim Walker for Vogue May 2014
A 1948 photograph by Cecil Beaton of models wearing gowns by Charles James that ran in Vogue serves as the inspiration behind Tim Walker’s latest editorial featuring Grace Mahary, Maja Salamon, Ola Rudnicka, Codie Young, Esmeralda Seay-Rynolds, Nastya Sten, Sasha Luss, Alexandra Kivimaki, Alice Cornish & Fei Fei Sun that appears in the publication’s May 2014 issue. The retrospective exhibition Charles James: Beyond Fashion, which Hamish Bowles previews for this story, opens next month at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Models in the image recreating Beaton’s 1948 photographed are all pictured wearing paper dresses and jewelry created by Rhea Thierstein.
