King Kong is moving to 2017.
Universal is pushing Legendary’s film, originally titled Skull Island, from a release date of Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, to Friday, March 10, 2017. Now titled Kong: Skull Island, the film will be released in 3D and Imax 3D.
Tom Hiddleston is starring in the film, which will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, Kong: Skull Island is an origin tale, exploring the king of the apes’ home as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.
Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce and Alex Garcia will executive produce.
The release-date switch takes the action movie out of competition with Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Fox’s Trolls, which are both slated for Nov. 4. The only other film scheduled for the new March 2017 date is Fox’s untitled Bollywood Musical.
