See you there!

we want to give a live and direct acknowledgement to AMBER STARKS for being at the forefront of the fight to get those who create and sign the laws to acknowledge hair that does not fall into the ‘straight’ category. with amber’s hard work (and some assistance) house bill 3409 (http://www.leg.state.or.us/13reg/measpdf/hb3400.dir/hb3409.intro.pdf) was passed unanimously, easing restrictions on braiding, locs and other predominately afrikan styles for hair. while this is great news, there’s still more work to do- not only on the legislative level, but also on bringing awareness to the fact that coilier textures have different needs than straighter textures… and we need to come to acceptance of our OWN textures- this is just as much work as trying to pass a bill.

amber will be here with us to discuss these experiences and perspectives, as well as other sociopolitical issues- you know how we do! time is of the essence, and as we’re on every other week we have a lot to discuss… we would love to hear from you to hear your perspectives as well!

stay tuned TONIGHT (thursday the 25th), starting at 8pm (west coast time), 10pm (in the middle) and 11pm (on the east coast) on KBOO 90.7 fm (in oregon); and kboo.fm worldwide!
