Katniss will pick whoever she thinks she can’t survive without.

Gale. In Tigriss’ basement. Mockingjay

Something that’s occurred to me regarding this quote is how Gale hasn’t realized Katniss’ growth over the past year. Before, a the first Hunger Games, this was quite true of Katniss. She was a survivor. Everyone knew it (even Peeta’s mother). But during those games, she proved that she wasn’t all about survival, but about living. If she were all about survival, then she never would have teamed up with Rue. Or gone to search for Peeta. She would have killed Peeta at the end, if she were all about survival.

Katniss found out about her true self in those games. But Gale wasn’t paying attention. Yes, Katniss was a survivor. But she was more than that. If Katniss were only about survival, why would she sit there at the end of the book just waiting for something (or someone- Peeta?)? No, she wasn’t all about survival. She was about living too.

#TeamKatniss

From A Mighty Girl"Fantastic response by 14-year-old actress Willow Shields, who plays Primrose Everdeen in The Hunger Games films, when she was asked during an interview if she was "Team Gale or Team Peeta," referring to the two love interests of the series’ protagonist Katniss Everdeen: "I’m team Katniss. Everyone thinks there’s a love triangle and when I look at it, when I read the books with my sister, I just thought more about how Katniss is going to the games for her family. So, I’m team Katniss.”“

So, initially, I was disappointed that we didn’t get to hear the mockingjays take up The Hanging Tree once Katniss was finished. Then I realised, they did. Except it was the people in the districts; THEY are the Mockingjays. Each and every person who was willing to lay down their lives for the sake of freedom - for emancipation - from the Capitol IS a Mockingjay. And Katniss provided them with a song to sing, which they took up and created into their own anthem.
