Roast Beef Sandwich Au Jus w/ Swiss Cheese and Waffle Fries

@ The Kapeteria - New York, NY

Thoughts: One of the Kap’s best sandwich specials.  Roast beef is cooked on the grill in au jus, gets some swiss melted on, placed on the bread and is then drizzled with more au jus.  Definite upgrade on the baguette (very fresh).  They also give you a side of au jus to dip… oh so good.  Fries were a little on the soft side, but I think I should be cutting down anyway… think… but will probably not do…

Burger w/ Pepperoni and Provolone, with curly fries and onion rings

@ The Kapeteria - New York, NY

Thoughts: Ok… so yesterday’s burger from the Kap was subpar (the burger itself), but today they had a “patty melt burger”… meaning they were essentially soaking in au jus… meaning… not dry at all.  Decided to go a little italian with this baby, though.  Here’s the breakdown: bun = great.  still toasted and buttered.  burger = juicy (yay).  pepperoni = good choice.  there were about 5 pieces of deli-style pepperoni on the burger, and it added a new flavor to every bite.  provolone = eh.  I always seem to order provolone on anything that seems italian, but truth be told, there’s just not that much flavor there.  curly fries and onion rings = you already know.  happily, the burger did not need any “saving” this time, and the meal was delicious.  love the Kap.. and points to Fox for doing provolone on top of the burger, then on top of the pepperoni

Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes with Black Pepper Gravy and Broccoli

@ The Kapeteria - New York, NY

Thoughts: Some things in life can’t logically be explained.. like love, Stonehedge or why they’re making another Ghost Rider movie.  So, while I love fried things and steak, can someone please explain to me why I’m not big on combining the two?  The breading was akin to that of a good piece of fried chicken - crispy with subtle hints of pepper and spices.  Perhaps it was the gravy that got to me - heavy and very salty.  It’s only the second time I’ve ever had chicken fried steak, but it’s the second time I’ve been disappointed with it.  I wouldn’t get this again, but if presented in sandwich form, I may give it a shot…

Hot Dog with Nacho Cheese and a few inches of a Turkey and Swiss hero

@ The Kapeteria - New York, NY

Thoughts: I guess I was hungry.  You could put nacho cheese on anything and it would be great (note to self: will try with chocolate).  In terms of being healthy.. I figured the hot dog and a plate full of fries are interchangeable, and the sandwich did not have any dressing on it.  This is probably my second healthiest meal posted on here. It was yum.

Grilled Cheese (Cheddar & American) with Tomato and Fries

@ The Kapeteria - New York, NY

Thoughts: I promise this is not turning into a “look what I ate outta my work cafeteria” blog, but it was too busy to leave the office last week.  This first went on the flat-top, then to the panini press.  Bangin’ crispiness.  That’s word to the fries and the sandwich.

Bacon Cheeseburger w/ cheddar, lettuce, tomato and an onion ring

@ The Kapeteria  - New York, NY

Thoughts: The Kapeteria is Kaplan’s home office cafeteria, which is located about 20 feet away from my office… the proximity of it has been somewhat of an issue in the past (in a good way).  For lunch, I went with a cheddar bacon burger with a side of onion rings.  The one thing you should know about the Kap is that their bacon is AMAZING.  The second thing you should know is that the burgers are not that amazing.  Today’s was a little overcooked and dry.  The bun was buttered and toasted (yay) and the toppings were all fresh, which helped revive the burger.  The meal was complete with a side of delicious, perfectly fried onion rings.  All in all, this was a good, quick meal.

Turkey and Pepperoni Wrap with Provolone Cheese, served with Curly Fries

@ The Kapeteria - New York, NY

Thoughts:  About 87% of all Americans said they would prefer the cheese on their sandwich to be “melty” or “meltier.”  I, my friends, are that 87%.  While this wrap was thrown on the panini press, it clearly didn’t get enough love there.  It may seem alien to you, but Turkey + Pepperoni has been one of my deli favorites dating back to my subway scamming days (double meat for free).
