I would first like to say that I fully support #BlackoutFriday, as a person of color I think it is incredibly important. And seeing all of your lovely selfies has already made my day~ ♥︎
What I am not keen about are people sending me angry messages, and threats, because I posted my weekly Friday #MakeGoodArt reminder where I encourage people to write, make art and take selfies.
I get hate mail all the time, there’s always someone out there who doesn’t like what I’m doing. And that’s okay, you have your freedom to call me ugly names, and I have my freedom to press the ‘ignore’ button.
Calling me 'racist' and telling me that I’m 'trying to erase the hard work of black people' or going as far as saying that I’m trying to 'take the spotlight' is a different matter entirely. My reminder goes up every Friday morning— it has been doing so for over a year now. I created it because I found so much negativity on the writing Tumblr community that I wanted to create a space for people to feel empowered, to be able to have a time when — regardless of the craziness of life, school, and personal life — you could put your foot down and say "Today is MY day, and I will spend it making art."
Those of you who have been following me for a while know this, and you also know that the blog runs like clockwork. Everything is scheduled. The Friday reminder you see today has been scheduled since Wednesday. Because of the way my life is, if I want my blog to work I need to schedule stuff. The most keen amongst you would’ve already realized that all my posts go up at the same time every day. As a matter of fact the Daily Writer Positivity goes up exactly at 3:23 PM PST. Again, everything is scheduled.
My weekly Friday reminder going up on the same day as #BlackoutFriday is not a political statement. I’m just doing what I always do, encouraging people to make art, write, and share their beautiful selves with the world~ ♥︎
PS: Shoutout to the angry guy with the avengers URL who said I was "just another piece of sh*t white guy".
Spoilers: I am not even American.
