Aurora Borealis. Beaconia, Manitoba.

As a photographer I am constantly looking for new subjects and challenges to expand my skill set and to diversify my content. The northern lights appeared in the sky as I was on a beach attempting a shot of the Milky Way last Saturday night (this had a pretty decent outcome too that you will see later.) I was presented then with the technical challenge of capturing this incredible display that I had not yet encountered in my short career. What I came away with is an image that I am very satisfied with and thought was worth sharing. The colour and composition is dreamlike, especially with the long exposed water and stars as well as the lingering effects of the sunset on the left hand side of the image. I simply cannot get over how colours like this exist in nature. If you are one of the lucky people who have seen northern lights in real life, you will know what I mean when I say that there is almost nothing more engaging in the natural world than watching those lights dance.

As an aside, I also want to say a very big thank you to everyone who has been so engaged in the past couple months with comments, likes and shares. Your support is incredible and this image is for you.
