LFW SS13 Special, Grace Bol at Storm

My fav here was Phillip Treacy two days ago where I had to wear Michael Jackson’s clothes. They brought them from a museum to the show. I got to wear the shiny studed silver jacket and an amazing head piece. It’s a shame I didn’t get to wear the jacket from Thriller but I sure have a photo of me wearing it backstage. I met Grace Jones, too. She was amazing and very hyper and kept giving me compliments! Starstruck!

I think one day I want to work for the UN, I want to help people. My mum was at the UN. For now though I’m really enjoying this. Like I got flowers sent to my agency the other day, which is kind of funny. I guess model agencies get a lot of flower deliveries huh?! Paris is so beautiful but it smells really funny in places. Like some of the stuff you can smell on the metro, I don’t even know what it is it smells so extreme.

I remember when i got Marc by Marc. I heard at 11 at night and was just coming home from a CK casting and my agent called me and she was like, congrats, you got Marc by Marc. And i was like, are you serious right now ? Don’t play with me!!! And she said Tsheca, i’m very serious. And when i got Fendi i was just like SHUUTT UPP!! My agent said, no sweet pea, you really got Fendi. I’m good now, i could go home to Jamaica. Ha.

I’m reading Lolita at the moment. That whole middle bit after he’s already been sleeping with her and the mum’s dead just kind of drags on though don’t you think? The bit where they moved to that new town and she’s just started school. Anyway, i’m just about to finish my exams so I’m doing quite a lot of work on that. That’s what I should be doing. My English coursework is supposed to be in Monday and I haven’t started.

Well I wouldn’t say I’m a pro, but I’ve always taken pictures of things that are interesting to me. Like mostly I really like to go out on a bright day when there are lots of shadows and take pics of interesting shapes and shadows created by the light. I’d like to take more shots of people but I’m kinda shy about it, you know, just going up to someone and asking if I can take their pic. I think I just need to go and do it once and it’ll be fine.

I’m from a town called Berry near Sydney. Berry like raspberry and strawberry. It’s a cute little country town. It’s near the coast though which is amazing. And it’s known for it’s doughnuts. Like everybody from Sydney is like, “What you’re from Berry? Oh my god the doughnuts!” It’s basically this van, the famous doughnut van, that makes them fresh for you. They’re like sugar and cinnamon. So good.

I love Brecht. I guess a lot of people who like theatre in my city are into Brecht. He really changed things and the approach to theatre. I study in Leipzig in Germany actually! I don’t know, it’s pretty cool there, a lot of people say it’s like Berlin 20 years ago. It’s really cheap so a lot of young people are moving there now. It has a sort of rawness to it. I’m in Chelsea at the moment which is the polar opposite to where I live

I don’t really do sports except this thing called Body Plastic. It’s sort of like yoga but I don’t really know the English word for it. No it’s not sculpture haha. Before that I did a lot of Lindy Hop dancing, like swing. I love the whole 60’s vibe: the dresses, James Dean, all that. No idea why they call it Lindy Hop. But yeah you definitely need a good dance partner because the boy has to lift you up a lot… if he can.

I love customising and making clothes. When I was at school I ended up bleaching a lot of my class mates’ clothes cause they liked my jeans that I made so much. I just ended up making my own stuff and then asked my mum to take pics of me in my bedroom, which I set up as a little studio. That’s how I ended up modelling. I even made clothes out of paper. I sent some of those shots to the agency and ended up being signed.

I’m a big reader. Crime books are my favourite, I just have to get to the end. The last book I read was about Marilyn Monroe, I loved it. She has such an amazing story. There were so many things that could have stopped her. I think this job isn’t easy, you know, it’s hard work. And it’s not like everything works out all the time either. I find her inspiring because she just kept going and believed in herself and didn’t give up.

I was born in the town of Kalashnikov and Tchaikovsky was born very close to it… so woohoo. I used to be a synchronized swimmer. Wait, I’ve got some pics on here, they’re hilarious. Look, I’m wearing a fish scale effect swimsuit! But I decided not to do it and went to the theatre instead and then I went to model in Moscow and then to Milan for the first time and lived there for 2 years. And now I’m here. Yay. For a few weeks anyway.

I want to live in the 17th century. It’s my favourite century and I think it’s the best. I want to be a OFFIZER in the 17th century. Ja! I’m not interested in the 19th century because it’s too close to our time, it’s too similar. And I don’t want to be in the middle ages either. Everything was dark and everyone was catholic or dead. So I want to be a field marshall and carry a musket or a sword. I could dress as a boy. That’s fine.

I used to do loads of gymnastics back home. I wasn’t bad actually. Even won a competition and everything. I pretty much trained every day of the week. I had a six pack but that’s kinda gone now which I guess is kind of better with my job. I was pretty good at Vault, that was my favourite. You’d run up really fast and do a big jump over the top of it. Now all I do is hop around on the trampoline with my 1 year old nephew.

ISSUE 36, Lia Pavlova, IMG

Do you know Matryoshka? They’re these dolls you can paint on that stack up. It’s all pretty Russian the stuff I do, like this traditional Russian dance with huge dresses. I can’t really describe them they’re kind of red and white… wait let me draw one for you.The skirt is a bit like an umbrella. And then there’s a traditional headdress with it. They were always pretty big for me though so I looked like a shrimp most of the time haha.

Thanks for taking me to that shop. So if it all goes wrong i’ll get a job in that spare car parts shop we just shot in huh? I think the guys and me there got on. Ha. So if you went to my town today i would send you to the Zoo i guess, it’s not very big. Like one tiger and one lion. Maybe two Lions. And two tigers. I enjoyed being in Tokyo. It’s just so huge. I love the mad atmosphere there, just crazy. I want to go back. Soon.
