In 1979 Ted Bundy’s trial became a public spectacle. Lovesick groupies showed up in court desperate to attract attention. Most of his victims wore their hair long, parted in the middle and wore hoop earrings so women would come to court with their hair parted in the middle wearing hoop earrings. A couple of them even dyed their hair the right kind of brown.

Is it unhealthy or bad to be attracted to someone whose done terrible things? I see alot of girls like Richard rockstar Ramirez or whoever he is. Do you think people like him as a person, or just for his looks? Because I tend to see alot of people justify his actions and stuff. i'd just like to know what an un-biased and fair person thought

  • I can’t say that it’s “unhealthy” or “bad.”  If it is controlling your life, then yes, it may be unhealthy.  Sadly, there are a lot of judgmental people out there—-I am not one of them.  I am going to try to break it down as best as I can.
  • I do feel that Hybristophilia is a real and actual thing.  Some may disagree; but from my experiences and from what I have witnessed it is real.  If you do not know what it is click here and that will break it down for you.
  • "Prison Groupies" have existed since…well forever ago.  Women who have sympathy for men who have committed horrible crimes; or simply dangerous men.  Clifford L. Linedecker wrote a book about this called "Prison Groupies," and it talks about varies relationships women have had with high-profile inmates.  Trutv has an interesting read on prison groupies here.  Some women feel safer starting relationships with men who will never be released from prison.  Some are convinced that the man is innocent.  Ted Bundy had women who claimed to love him, as did Jeffrey Dahmer who was openly gay.  Did you know even Josef Fritzl has groupies?  He gets mail from all over the world from woman claiming to love him.  Charles “Tex” Watson got married and fathered many children while in prison.  Both Lyle and Erik Menendez were flooded with fan mail—-and both married their pen pals.  Kenneth Bianchi had his girlfriend stage a copy cat murder to try to get him out of prison.

  • A lot of young girls idolize killers; I am not in a place to judge.  I see them getting a lot of hate on tumblr, but I’m not one to give hate.  I feel like if it’s something you’re going through, then hell—-go through it.  It may fizzle out when you’re older and it may not.  It’s okay to feel attracted to someone like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold; I don’t blame you and you can’t help it.  It’s okay to wish you knew someone who committed a crime who is no longer deceased.  It’s okay.  Because it’s YOUR life, and if people want to spend time hating on you or giving you a hard time; fuck them.  It’s for you to work through and you only; and you can’t help who you’re attracted to.
  • Many younger females who weren’t alive or around during the Ramirez trials but are attracted to him now are attracted to the images of the young Ramirez plastered all over the internet.  Richard Ramirez looked completely different as he was in his 50’s.  I can’t speak for anyone writing him; but I feel that when the younger girls were writing him—-they were picturing a young Ramirez.  Not an old Ramirez.  As for Ramirez as a person, he used to be “himself” in the letters from the 90’s; but then we all started getting the same letters…in fact; he would draft out letters and have friends photo copy the letter and then just write your name on top of it.  Very few people knew the real Ramirez.  I wrote him for 5 years and spoke to him on the phone.  All I gathered is that he was on some kind of medication and he is interested in young children.  I will never justify his actions or defend him…Richard Ramirez was a brutal murderer, a pedophile, and a rapist.

I hope this answer was okay.  I tried my best!  I suggest you do some reading on it though because there is plenty of material out there that is VERY interesting!  Below are some pictures of men who have A LOT of women who love and support them.

Serial Killer Groupies

In any event, serial killers prove to be magnets for some people, mostly (but not always) females, and experts have offered a variety of reasons why:

  • Rescue fantasies: the SKG ( = serial killer groupie) wants to believe that she has the ability to change someone as cruel and powerful as a serial killer.
  • Need to nurture: many women have said that they see the little boy in these killers and feel an overwhelming desire to nurture and protect that part of him.
  • The perfect boyfriend: she knows where he is at all times, and while she can now claim that someone loves her, she does not have to endure the day-to-day issues of most relationships; she can keep the fantasy charged up for a long time.
  • Need for drama: during the trial, the daily events in the lives of serial killers may attract women who want to get close to the adversarial atmosphere and the possibility that something surprising may occur.
  • Hybristophilia: some people are sexually excited by others who commit violence
  • Exclusivity: there’s a real sense of ownership of the facts about the killers—which confers its own special status—among those who feel intimately associated with them
  • Regaining the lost male: some who have been abused, neglected or without a father figure look to the killer to fill that need
  • Vicarious fantasies: some wish to live out their own visions of violence through a person who can actually act them out
  • Low self-esteem: some women believe they cannot find a man and since men in prison are desperately lonely, it’s an easy way to get involved
  • Attention: when they do something like get involved with a killer, people talk about them and often the media puts a spotlight on them
  • Eminence: they evolve from Nobodies into Somebodies,
  • The chance to show their mettle: they align themselves against the world in a heated defence of their beloved
  • Beauty and the Beast syndrome: they like the idea of getting close to danger that will probably not hurt them, but there’s always the slight chance
HYBRISTOPHILIA: Know your Goddamn definitions!!

Hybristophilia is a paraphilia involving being sexually aroused or attracted to people who have committed an outrage or a gruesome crime. In popular culture, this phenomenon is also known as “Bonnie and Clyde Syndrome”

Up until a month ago, I had no idea what “hybristophilia” was.

I’ve been fantasising about serial killers, spree killers and mass murderers for a number of years now.

I understand that people find this disturbing and disgusting and I totally get it. It is sick. It is unhealthy. But I can’t help it.

One thing I’m grateful to Tumblr Fandoms for is that it’s given me a whole new perspective. I’ve always felt so ashamed about my secret obsession. I felt like the worst person in the world because nobody I know sees this the way I do. Nobody understands.

But I know now that there are other people out there like me. People who know what they are and aren’t afraid to admit it.

That makes me happy.

What pisses me off though, are these teenage groupies who fake “hybristophilia” to look “cool”.

How on earth is that COOL?

WHY IS THAT EVEN A THING?!

It took me a year of therapy to even admit to having these fatasies and then you get these girls here flaunting it like a designer handbag.

Let’s get one thing straight. You do not have hybristophilia because you find T.J Lane hot. Why? Because he’s already hot to begin with.
And we’d probably bang him without the criminal record.

To me, what makes them attractive is what they’ve done so if you’re sitting there spouting shit like “I love him IN SPITE of what he’s done”, you’re not a hybristophiliac.

If you’re only attracted to killers who are naturally attractive, you’re not a hybristophiliac.

If you avoid reading about the details of the cases because it makes you feel uneasy to associate the killer with his crimes, you’re not a hybristophiliac.

I would bang Wayne Gacy. Why? Because he has an impressive body count.

Would I find him attractive if he was just a petty thief? Hell no.

Do you see what I’m getting at?

Edmund Kemper is not commercially attractive in any way, but I’d still fuck him ten ways til Sunday.

THAT is hybristophilia.

Same goes for David Berkowitz, Jeffrey Dahmer(although I won’t lie, he was pretty fucking good looking), Westley Allan Dodd, Kip Kinkel, and the list goes on.

So let’s NOT confuse your teen crush on a “bad boy” with something serious just because you think the big words make you look cooler.

And I’m not saying don’t post your cute little collages and gifs because some of us really do enjoy looking at them, just don’t wear the “hybristophilia” tag like a blue ribbon from the county fair.

Get it? Got it? Good.

I’m glad we could all have this talk.

Are you a hybristophiliac? Why are so interested in murderers? It's kind of creepy.

No, threatening grey blur with sunglasses I am not a hybristophiliac. I am very interested in how the human mind works and what drives a person to commit such horrible acts against other human beings.

Creepy? How so? I never really blog anything about it, except the odd Columbine related thing here or there. If that bothers you, kindly don’t look at my blog.

I don't understand. Of all the characters to get brattily defensive of, why do they pick Cronus? Why do they defend Cronus with "well he's not a literal rapist like Mindfang and he doesn't cripple anybody like Vriska" when he made it clear he'd like to at least cripple and kill Mituna? Why Cronus? Why not get defensive of literally any other character? I hear Dirk needs defenders against the "since Bro was abusive Dirk is too" crowd these days. Then again, I don't really want them on my side.

same reason hybristophiliacs cream their jeans over an accused mass murderer but have no lust or protective cooing instincts for the sexy and heroic first responders who rescued the victims, or even the victims themselves: you gotta be scary and dangerous to inspire that naughty shiver.

their entire attraction is predicated on the very creepiness they deny exists. this doesn’t make them bad people, just gross when they get abusive about it.

oblig disclaimer: love the character, delightfully awful, etc
