So if you have never had the experience of staying in Kimpton brand hotel, you are missing out completely! Kimpton is a luxury brand of boutique hotels scattered around the U.S. in highly traveled destination cities. Now, your first question is… what the heck is a boutique hotel???? Well, boutique hotels are generally higher end hotels that are unique and smaller than your average 4 or 5 star hotel. Kimpton’s hotels generally have around 200-300 rooms. That is pretty small these days for a hotel. The advantage to this is that they can provide highly attentive service. I have never had a terrible experience at one of their hotels and they commonly have the best luxury rates in all of the luxury travel world. Many times they have extras they throw in along with a great rate(ie. breakfast, complimentary drinks upon arrival, etc.)
Every day at 5pm they host a complimentary wine reception in the lobby of their hotel complete with wine and tasty treats. During the winter months they usually have a hot chocolate option or spiced cider as well. If you join Kimpton’s frequent stay program, Kimpton In Touch, you get free Wi-Fi at every visit to the hotel and you get $10 free out of the mini bar. I have also found they are liberal with upgrades at check in. Never hurts to ask! If you have kids, then this is definitely the luxury brand to look at. Kimpton has great kid programs including robes for the kids, cookies/milk, and some properties even feature a live goldfish to take to the room for your stay to entertain the kids. Chicago has four Kimpton properties, of which I have stayed at 3. I plan on staying at their Hotel Burnham property some time this year but until then, Hotel Palomar is by far my favorite.
Side Note: Currently, they are running a special for their Kimpton In Touch members for spring break rates. 25% off on applicable nights! Join Kimpton In Touch on their website at http://www.kimptonhotels.com and you can see all the current specials available to member.
