Weekend update: Lovely times in South Congress.

This weekend, my friend Maddie came in from San Antonio for a relaxed weekend of food & drinks in the lovely little neighborhood I live in, South Congress.

For those of you who are familiar with South Congress, we seriously did not leave the vicinity. We went from my apartment at Statehouse, to burgers at Hopdoddy, poolside drinks at Hotel San Jose, to coffee the next morning at Jo’s, brunch at Perla’s, and afternoon drinks at Doc’s.

Seriously. That is like 80% of the establishments in 2 blocks. It was awesome. Lobster rolls, brie burgers, and lots of pinot grigio were all in the mix. It was a perfect springtime weekend in the city I will be leaving in just 6 weeks.

I can’t believe this chapter is coming to an end so soon…

Hotel San Jose Named #3 Harper's BAZAAR Top Hotels in the World

One of our favorite home away from homes is Hotel San Jose in Austin, Texas :) Located on South Congress, walking distance from so many great shops, restaurants, and live music spots, it’s the perfect mix of laid back while still being right in the middle of everything :) Hotel San Jose has an amazing history, being built originally in the 1930’s, then being reborn in the late 90’s into what it is today. Owner Liz Lambert’s love for music led to The South By San Jose Festival. Originally starting as 3 bands playing in the parking lot between the hotel and Jo’s Coffee, now is a 5 day festival during South By South West. The lot is transformed into a mini festival with shops and food venders on the sides. People attend in the thousands and they host and array of local, as well as international bands and artists. SXSJ is one of our favorite stops during SXSW. We’ve seen some amazing performances in the past like Dum Dum Girls and Temples. The whole property has such a good energy about it and the staff is super nice as well :) Depending on the night of the week, there’s almost always something fun going on in the courtyard, from DJs spinning vinyl to an amazing tarot card reader. The mini gift shop in the lobby is great as well. They always have wonderful items for sale ( I love the incense from Japan they carry). If you’re planning a trip to Austin anytime soon, I definitely recommend staying at Hotel San Jose :) Also, if you’re in town on a Sunday morning, Jo’s Coffee next door provides amazing live music from great local artists such as Emily Gimble and Warren Hood. Anyway, it’s a must visit whenever you’re in Austin :)

Be sure to check out this amazing coverage in Harper’s BAZAAR as well :)
