I say fuck the police, thats how I treat em
We buy our way out of jail, but we can’t buy freedom
We’ll buy a lot of clothes when we don’t really need em
Things we buy to cover up what’s inside
Cause they make us hate ourself and love they wealth
That’s why shortys hollering “where the ballas’ at?”
Drug dealer buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack
And a white man get paid off of all of that
But I ain’t even gon act holier than thou
Cause fuck it, I went to Jacob with 25 thou
Before I had a house and I’d do it again
Cause I wanna be on 106 and Park pushing a Benz
I wanna act ballerific like it’s all terrific
I got a couple past due bills, I won’t get specific
I got a problem with spending before I get it
We all self conscious I’m just the first to admit it

I will never not dig this song.

Day 14: Entry 002

When I was walking from mu history class to my french class this morning the school anthem started playing and this one dude in front of me started singing along and then the entire hallway just started singing and then just as I was walking into my french class it ended and I heard my teacher yell “FIGHT FIGHT” and I almost tripped over my own feet. High School Musical is a real thing you guys.

sometimes when I’m driving through traffic listening to the radio, I get hit by pangs of sadness. when dani california started playing this past week I remembered the drives listening to stadium arcadium, loving just the album name, paying with the double cd fold-out case, and linking it wholly to the identity of my father.

add that to all the songs on the oldies radio I only know because of him and my mother, all his records, all their cds, nestled throughout the house, piled by players and sorted into shelves and revolving racks. tragic kingdom eaten by the car’s player. mariah’s Chicago album purchases. my dinosaur life, purchased in Texas on the visit to Rice, when I really had to ask him to buy it because it was just released and it had that parental advisory warning. all my high school anthems and summer mix cds now a reminder of a time that feels really, really temporally and emotionally distant to me now. las vegas with smash mouth playing. sunday mornings with the turntable going, dinners with abba, the beatles, and john denver. the old set of choir hymns. meditation from thais.

a lot of music, not even all sad music, can make me cry.

Fanmix yourself meme.

“We Got the Beat” as a song is such a quintessential American high school movie anthem. Fast Times at Ridgemont High? I was so excited when I heard they were going to do this song and it’s perfect.

ooohbabe asked:

Calla Lily: If you died right now, what song would you want to play at your funeral?

I think I would want Do It Alone by Sugar Cult. I love the line “I got time just to waste if you would be my new escape” and that’s like my high school anthem, really. I’ve always been nostalgic and wanting adventure so yeah, it might be about sex but I would want it played
