A couple of months ago I was asked to design a 4 fold menu for a high street Italian chain of restaurants. The project ended up getting shelved because the art direction was for a much more narrative illustration which isn’t really what I do. Having seen the final published artwork, my style wasn’t a natural fit to sit alongside the other two artists’ work.
I decided to take one of my initial, rejected, sketches to final artwork. The illustration references classic fresh Italian ingredients, cooking utensils and foods in the style of vintage 1950s cookery book illustrations.
Some photos from the CIA Big Draw event at the V&A Museum of Childhood a couple of weeks ago. Gwendolen, aged 4, wrote a brief for me to draw on the day, filled with aliens, pink spaceships and glittery moon dust. She helped me decorate some rockets, planets and aliens and cover everything in glitter!
