In the second book from Marissa Meyer in the Lunar Chronicles, we continue the story of Cinder, the cyborg mechanic; after she was arrested at the ball and awaiting transport back to Luna. Dr. Erland paid one last visit to her and tells her to meet him in Africa where, together, they can prepare to overthrow the evil Queen Levanna and put Cinder, who turns out to be the long lost Princess Selene, on the throne.
Meanwhile, in a small farm town in France, Scarlet grows impatient since her grandmother’s disappearance. The police have ruled it a suicide, and the townspeople aren’t helping the situation by claiming her grandmother is crazy. It’s up to Scarlet and a mysterious street fighter named Wolf to find her grandmother.
Somehow, Cinder, Cpt. Thorne (Cinder’s cell block neighbor), Scarlet, and Wolf are all after the same thing, unbeknownst to them. Cinder finds that part of her past can be revealed in France, but when they get there…all hell breaks lose.
I like the first book in this series, but I loved this one. I remember trying to describe it to a co-worker and the look on her face was priceless. “They escaped from prison and now they are out in space and Scarlet and Wolf have jumped off a train and are in the woods.” She looked at me like I had three heads. This book has a lot more action in it and is a bit more of a nail biter. You can sense that Wolf is hiding something and the chemistry between them is wonderful. What girl doesn’t want a big tough guy protecting her, right?
Here’s who I’d cast in the movie version:
Haley Bennett as Scarlet
Zac Efron as Captain Thorne
I don’t think Sci-fi is his thing, but he’d be perfect as the cocky, funny, and very good looking Thorne character.
