Brody Dalle shared her new track ‘Don’t Mess With Me’ to the Pappy’s crowd the titled track to her new solo album ‘Diploid Love’ which drops on April 28th. Dalle was in good spirits cranking through her punk fused set as her hubby Josh Homme looked on. She dedicated her last song to Alejandra.

She also wished happy birthday to a thirteen year old boy who came down from Santa Barbara to see her show.

Haim at Coachella on Friday. Haim talked about that they have been at Coachella every year since 2004 but never purchased tickets. Holes in Goldenvoice security that most do not know about.  Excellent performance by Haim on Friday.

One of the best shows of the year was the Franz Ferdinand show at Pappy and Harriet’s this year. It was amazing to see Franz Ferdinand introduce the audience to new songs from their first record in four years Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action which ranked forty six on the Rolling Stone albums of the year for 2013. Here is an excerpt from my review:

"Alex Kapranos greeted the Franz Ferdinand crowd with a gleeful "Howdy Partners" as he walked on the stage wearing a post modern version of a cowboy jacket paying homage to Pappy and Harriet’s seventy year old hertiage as a former site of old cowboy movies. I was surronded by hardcore Franz Fans who came as far away as Canada to see this band during this Pre-Coachella warm up show prior to Franz Ferdninand upcoming appearance on Saturday at the Coachella Music and Art Festival."

The gem of Desert Daze was a LA favorite Deap Vally. As they were getting on the Block Stage, I saw proud papa legendary LA Broadcaster Steve Edwards waiting to see his daughter co-organizer of Desert Daze, Julie Edwards bang the skins with the ferocity of a Cro-Magnon but with the sexiness of a runway model. Steve Edwards’s son is the guitarist for Autolux and the brother of Julie Edwards.

Sharin Foo of the Raveonettes was also in the audience to take in the swagger and fresh raw rock from this Los Angeles indie garage punk duo who met during knitting class. Lindsay Troy is a talented musician full of confidence having a good time during the thirty-five minute set on the Block stage. Troy plays the Fender Mustang with abandon proving her coolness is backed by her dominance of the electric guitar. Deap Vally had back up singers and an additional percussionist towards the end of the session that featured the crowd favorite “Walk of Shame.” Deap Vally’s Sistrionixs album is a must for your record collection.

See Deap Vally in British Vogue.

Nick Waterhouse and his Tarots were a cool alternative to the Coachella Music Festival on Friday night.

I felt that I was taken back to a smokey club drinking a extra dry martini while having a Lucky Strike. This is Nick’s second visit to Pappy and Harriet’s as part of the two week celebration of music at Pappy’s.
