nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

“Will you need fresh socks?”

Sherlock’s voice immediately brings John back to the present. “What?”

Sherlock gestures irritably to the wet socks clutched in John’s hand. “Socks,” he says again sharply because he hates repeating himself, “Will you need fresh socks?”

Those of you who have followed me for a while probably know that I’m a shameless fluff-monger. Angst is not my favorite, and I generally only read it to introduce some variety into this blog. That being said, this fic, which was part of Batch 3 of the lovely trajektoria’s Johnlock Fanfiction Club was angsty but lovely. I really have to give this author kudos for description. I loved how much imagery there was, and the writing made the scenes feel incredibly vivid. I found the post-Reichenbach dynamic between John and Sherlock to be extremely plausible: awkward, stilted, but underneath it all, as intense as always. This author gives a lovely portrayal of a classic scenario (a dramatic scene in the rain). The emotional intensity is very much present, and I loved how that built up throughout the entire fic. Perhaps the only problem I had with this fic was in the plot construction. There were a few moments that were maybe just a tiny bit too melodramatic (it can be hard to achieve the right level of intensity). My only other concern was how quickly John disregarded Mary (yes, this is Series 3 compliant, so Mary does factor in here). I found it unlikely that John would be willing to desert Mary (and drastically change their baby’s life) at the drop of a hat, as it seemed a huge decision that couldn’t be made rashly or irresponsibly. Maybe that’s just my being nit-picky and imposing my personal thoughts on this fic though. I don’t want to detract too much from the fic. Trajektoria’s recommendation was a good one, unsurprisingly, as this fic is passionate and very intense. WARNING for infidelity (on John’s part? Kind of?).

If you’re confused about all the name-dropping in this review, trajektoria is an amazing Johnlock author. She’s started a really cool Johnlock Fanfiction Club, which you can participate in. Basically, she recommends fics in “Batches”, which you can then review and talk about! This fic I just reviewed is from Batch 3. Read more about my perspective of the club here.

Finally, this author, miss_frankenstein, is a first time Johnlock author. Let’s show him/her some love; if you liked this fic, leave kudos or comment! I can’t wait to see more of his/her work; keep an eye on this author!
