Here’s a little shout-out to GoRankem for making it on Hypebot again. I had the pleasure of working with these folks in the fall last year while I was gaining my job-hunt bearings, and it was a great time. Plus, I got to go back to Athens a ton. I have no doubt that Adam, Matt, and everyone else in the GoRankem crew will find great success in the future.

Hands down, one of the toughest things to debate about is favorite music, favorite bands, and favorite songs by an artist or a band. I think the work that NPR’s "All Songs Considered" is doing is really interesting and valuable data to look at, as is the work that we’re trying to do with GoRankem. I imagine a day where artists will realize how valuable GoRankem’s data is and will use it to customize “best of” albums or concerts.

top 5 pretty lights songs, are REALLY these the best songs? what do you guys think?

Is anyone using yet? Seems like it’s the new “it” thing in the music world right now. Hypebot sees it as a useful tool to promote artist/fan interaction, which is exactly what we’re going for with GoRankem. Ideally, artists will see how valuable our data is and will use it to create a better concert experience, or a better “best of” album than ever before.

Hey guys! Recently, this tumblr has made a little transition. For the past few months, Brooke was doing the posting, because she was the social media intern for an awesome start-up company called GoRankem. But Brooke has graduated from college and now she is on to bigger and better things, and I’m here! Basically, I just want to give you guys a little background on myself so you have an idea of who I am, and why I post the things that I do.

I’m Jamie, an upcoming 4th year student at the University of Georgia. I’m majoring in English and French, with a minor in History. Before you ask, no I do not want to be a teacher. Over the past year and a half, I’ve become very involved with social media through my personal tumblr and twitter, and I’m convinced that social media will play a big role in business advertising/marketing in the near future. As the new social media intern for GoRankem, I’m going to use this page and the twitter account to share interesting news and music with you guys, as well as other odds and ends, while hopefully spreading the word about GoRankem and encouraging you guys to check out the website and rank your favorite bands’ songs!

That’s me on the right and Brooke on the left!

When checking out a new band, the first album that you listen to can have a huge effect on your opinions from there on out. You might stumble upon a musician’s best song first, allowing you to forgive any artistic oversights said musician may later fall prey to. Or, you know, you might be the victim of that Western movie-themed solo album that the bassist decided to bust out in the off-season.

GoRankem aims to help music lovers wade through the morass of tunes out there, so as to get right to the good stuff (according to fans, at least) at the get-go.

“The inspiration dates back to my high school days when I was trying to embrace a band like Widespread Panic — loved what I was hearing, but their monster catalog was just too damn overwhelming,” says founder Adam Wexler. “All I wanted was a cheat sheet so I could figure out which songs to check out in the ideal order.”

In case you missed it, GoRankem had a really awesome write-up on Mashable and it’s been a HUGE boost to our site. Click through to read the rest of the article or check out GoRankem for yourself!

GoRankem got a little bit of a revamp over the weekend and we’re hoping the new “F&#% That” will be a better call to action for our users and will encourage them to rank songs and improve the rankings.

We’ve gotten quite a few new followers over the past few days, which I am very excited about! I know that some of you guys might not know what GoRankem is about, so I wanted to give you guys a little background.

“Most music services have you giving thumbs up or thumbs down to songs or artists in aggregate against the entire catalog of the site. Rank’em is a site for dedicated fans, fans who don’t just say Roundabout by Yes is a pretty good song, but would consider ranking the live performances at the House of Blues and Montreux over other releases of the song. Since you’re not ranking one band against another but instead the discography of a band against itself, Rank’em provides an interesting look into the musical history of an artist or band and how well received their song catalog was among fans.”
