So, if you click on the link above, you can see the results of the survey. I really wanted to get an idea of what my followers were like. I figured I’d talk about each question really quick and what I got from it.
1. What is your age?
My husband calls this my old people hobby and I think there is a certain perception that it is something for retirees. Well, you guys blew that notion out of the water. 83% of you are under that age of 40, with the largest group being between 21-29.
2. What race are you?
The results were not entirely surprising. I know race can be a sensitive issue, but I feel its important that this hobby be an inclusive one.
3. What is your gender?
Dollhouses are gendered “female” so it isn’t terribly surprising that the overwhelming majority of you identify that way. Also, I know tumblr in general tends toward a female audience, so that may have skewed the results even more. Also, yeah for non-binary folks!
4. Where do you live?
This one was just more of confirmation of something I already knew thanks to my Google data. I know this is a pretty US centric blog simply because I’m from the US. And even most of my outside the US is either Canadian or European. I have to wonder if this is in part due to a language barrier since the blog is also very much in English.
5. What kind of miniatures are you interested in?
Not surprisingly, traditional dollhouses was top because I’m pretty sure I have slight bias towards them. But all the other categories fared very well, with American Girl dolls being the smallest category. Also, I wish I had included some of the categories suggested by other such as miniature gardening/fairy gardens, anime/action figures, and modern miniatures.
6. What is your scale of choice?
Multiple scales was the most popular, which didn’t surprise me. I did expect it to be more evenly distributed between the other scales, but 1:12 dominated.
7. How do you connect to the miniature community?
Once again, I was not surprised that websites and blogs were the main source for miniature goodness. I was a little surprised by the 25% who said they aren’t trying to connect. Most of you still clicked on websites along withe answer, so I’m guessing that you are more lurkers who just like looking at miniatures. Also, I wish I had included social media as an option.
8. What kind of miniature content interests you?
Almost all of you want to look a pictures of miniatures, which is luckily what this blog specializes in! Tutorials and DIY came a fairly close second at 81%, so I think I will try to increase this kind of content. I’d like to do my own tutorials, I just have to settle on a format.
9. What are your biggest obstacles?
Not surprised that time and money were neck and neck, with space bringing up a respectable third. I was a little surprised by access to resources and knowledge where as high as they were. Combined with the answers to 8, I hope to include more content that can help you guys out.
So, there you guys are. Thanks to everyone who participated! Look for a giveaway on Monday!
