I think this is the first time I’ve written the word “Glee” in any of my Daily Dot stories!
I assume you’re all freaking out over the new Tyler Oakley + Darren Criss collab video released today. I got to chat with Tyler about what it’s like working with Darren, and how his whole Auguest went. Give it a click! It was horrible keeping my mouth shut for a few days on this awesome, but I am glad I can share it now.
At the end of the day, the YouTube community is about more than viewcounts and thumbs up. It’s about the conversations we have, the lessons we learn, and the ways we change together. Anybody who was around when Darren Criss was posting one-take Disney covers or when Tyler Oakley was lipsyncing to popstars instead of sharing the carpet with them knows what one website and an audience can do.
Ending net neutrality would take the audience out of the equation, harming independent creators like Tyler and preventing success stories like Darren’s. YouTube would stop being a departure from television and start becoming it. This isn’t just about not being able to binge-watch a series on Netflix. It’s about the future of online video and community as we know it.
We’re working to tell the FCC that net neutrality matters to us. Whether you make videos or comment on them, it matters to you, too.
